Because Floyd was still relatively early into his career?

Jones was fighter of the decade in the 90s.

Floyd had just picked up his first title in the 90s and hadn't even stepped up to LW by this point.

By 2005 Jones Jr was being beaten by everyone he fought, Floyd had only just stepped up to LWW at this point.

The overlap in a P4P sense isn't really there for this kind of comparison.

How about by 2003 then? Floyd was two years past his best ever performance, and Roy was still the man!

Face it: For SEVEN YEARS nobody had Floyd as the best. Roy was the man!

I'm 2003 no one cared about Floyd.

No one cared about him until he fought Oscar.

Floyd has one thing over Roy: He won a world title in a dominant performance at 20 in his 18th pro fight.

Nobody with an ounce of sense was rating Jones over Mayweather in 2000/2001 (I wasn't) - one was taking out great fighters regularly with either hand and the other was labouring to boring points wins over laughable opposition.

You seem to be taking the perspective of casual fans who only go off big names. Floyd was 30 and slightly past prime against DLH. He was P4P top 10 after the Hernandez win in 1998 and P4P number 2 as early as 2000, according to The Ring Magazine. He was P4P top 10 ever since then, until Jones lost and the argument then was Hopkins v Mayweather

He was actually P4P number 2 late 99.

But he was always ranked below Jones Jr until the Tarver loss.

When I say no one cared, I meant in there were massive fights going on like Hoya vs Mosley, Jones vs Ruiz, Hopkins vs Trinidad, Barrera vs Marquez, Zoo vs Judah.

Floyd wasn't really a part of that. And he'd looked bad against Castillo in the first fight.

I think from memory his first ppv headline was against Gatti and that wasn't until 2005.

Floyd was good, very very good, but he wasn't as big a deal as the other guys. That's what I meant by no one cared.

Fighter of the year doesn't always translate to P4P though, like Frampton and Glen Johnson have won it before now.

The green Jones Jr. who fought at 154 twice, would have beaten the Floyd that fought Canelo, De La Hoya or Cotto, and it wouldn't have been pretty. Roy was faster, had power in both hands, was taller and had reach.
