    Why aren't they?

And what do you mean, "modern era"? Both of these fighters fought relatively recently.

Frank Warren said Floyd`s performance against Gatti was the greatest he had ever seen in my newspaper the day after the Gatti win.

It's a disingenuous argument 95% of the time. People pick and choose whichever one suits their current position. Sometimes age doesn't matter. Other times it's all that matters. Sometimes number of fights is inconsequential. Other times it's clear and dry.

You tried to compare what they were doing at 20 years old. Floyd started younger and had more fights, so of course he was doing more. Things tighten up when you compare what they were doing at/around the same number of fights, though.

This kind of back and forth argument has reached its pinnacle with Lomachenko. And now everyone is throwing it around for every other fighter. What does it matter?

I think Roy was more famous back then and people are getting that confused with how Floyd was already regarded by experts at the time, he was on Roy`s shoulder and after the Gatti fight he took over, however he still wn`t famous, that came after the DLH win, that`s what people are getting confused about, after that Floyd went on to be much more famous than Roy, who is still unknown in large parts of Europe, no casuals no who Roy is whdere I live in the UK, but Floyd did good numbers here with some of his PPV figures, the Hatton fight gave him good exposure in Britain because Hatton was wildly popular among sports fans in the UK and te McGregor fight was watched by far more people in Europe than any Jones FAight aside from his loss to Calzaghe, and that`s being kind to Roy.

Roy's dad famously took him off TV after two fights because they wanted him to fight for the world title after 10 or 12 fights. He didn't fight on TV again until he left his dad in 92, after three years of obscurity.

Floyd would never have beaten a 22 year old version of Roy who fought as a JMW.

Why is this even up for discussion?

Floyd only had a few fights at JMW and was obviously at his peak at the lower weights such as LW.

It goes without saying that Roy would have beaten him.

A 19 year old Roy would've beaten him. He was sparring Ray Leonard.

Apparently you have to prove it to Luf. Doesn't matter if it's a hypothetical.

Apart from Dariusz, none of their top competition required them to travel overseas.

Roy didn’t cherry pick. It’s a myth that I’ve disproven time and again.

    Don’t be silly.

Roy had a lot of low level mandatories because he had all three of the main belts.

Roy burnt muscle to drop back from HW to Tarver. That took balls. He then rematched him straight after their first fight.

After he was knocked out and humiliated, he then jumped back into the ring just 3-4 months later.

After he’d been knocked out by Johnson, he then took over a year out before fighting Tarver again for the 3rd time.

Anybody who says that Roy was risk adverse is talking nonsense.

Because some fan boys seem to think Jones Jr is an all time great LMW talent.

    Based on?

Go and watch the 22 year old versions of him from 1991.

Watch his fights against Stackhouse, Vaca, Serwano and Castro, and then come back and say that Floyd would have beaten him.

    You’re talking nonsense.

It’s not how great they were, we’re talking about a H2H fight here.

The version of Roy who fought Ricky Stackhouse is the same version who fought Jorge Castro.

Same speed, style and skills etc.
