Not exactly. It depends on the diuretic. Caffeine is a diuretic as is water.

Tyson had less body fat in the 220s than Marciano had in the 180s.

They would fight at 152, Floyd would win, and fans would complain ad infinitum that the fight was not at 154. @Loudon

Well you are talking about Marciano dropping 10% of his body weight, so 200 should be realistic for Tyson!

You see you are letting the mask slip a bit here.

You are taking the lowest possible weight for Marciano, and citing a weight for Frazier where he was clearly well above his best fighting weight.

Clearly you want to shoe horn Marciano into the lowest weight class possible, while avoiding doing the same to Frazier.

Yes, that might make sense if Tyson were dropped in a futuristic version of the heavyweight division that he couldn't be a top dog in, sort of like if Marciano existed today.

What are you talking about? What mask? You're frankly starting to sound a bit strange right now.

I'm citing 205 lbs for Frazier and 185 lbs for Rocky. Those were their best fighting weights.

You still haven't answered my why Frazier dropping 30 lbs from his best fighting weight would be comparable to Rocky dropping 17 lbs from his.

But that isn't what he was talking about, was it?

The rules will vary significantly between VADA/USADA and whatever ragtag organization exists in Idaho, Uganda or wherever.

I am not just talking about professional boxing. The man accused ME of not knowing what I was doing when I had to cut weight.

In any event, he was not talking about caffeine, so there is no point there.

It appears that there are several posters in this thread who have cut weight without a negative outcome.

So they say. A simple google search can teach them or you the deleterious effects of dehydration.

I have no further interest in the argument. I was going to source Marciano's training, but there is not point since it has morphed into an argument about hydration. Again, I think the answer is pretty obvious.

In any event, I have slept on it and am switching sides. If Rocky was really a super-middle or LHW, then all the more greatness to the Rock for starching the big boys. It is obviously not true, but if it helps a few of the dimwits on this forum understand the greatness of this once-in-a-lifetime fighter, then fine by me. One would think that as boxing fans, they would trust the awe in which he was held by Dempsey, Walcott, Louis, Frazier, Ali and Foreman. But if it helps them to think that he was actually a LHW, then great.

This. People seem to forget that Marciano started off as a pro around 24-25 years old at around 190 lbs and didn’t start fighting top contenders until he was in his late 20’s, which isn’t a great time to start playing around with your weight.

Marciano earlier in his career against Goldman’s advice would sometimes skip eating one day out of the week like a lot of old timers would do around Dempsey’s time to come in a light as possible, which was around 179 or 180 lbs. Against weak competition it didn’t matter, but after two close calls with both Lowry and LaStarza Rocky got with the program and started coming in at a more comfortable weight. When you’re already in excellent fighting shape shaving those extra pounds off can make all the difference in a tough fight.

Bad Chad thought shaving off a few pounds was no big deal when he had his fight against Ward, but he found out on fight night why it was stupid to willingly put yourself at a disadvantage. Even the great Archie Moore often underperformed and even lost some fights he shouldn’t have due to excessive weight cutting.
