Somewhere in between Vitali by comfortable decision and close decision. Toney has the tools to frustrate him but not enough to get a win IMO
Vitali and it wouldn't be close IMO. Toney's skill and toughness might see him make it to the final bell.
Vitali by a massive margin. P4P Toney is much greater. However, Vitali isn't Peter. Vitali can jab him and outbox him all night. Toney at heavyweight does not have the speed he had at lighter weights, doesn't have the power to keep Vitali off him Toney may win a couple of early rounds but once Vitali finds his range, he will maul him. And I am a Toney fan.
I think Toney would slip Vitali's jab pretty easily, slip into range and land great counter's inside. But Toney was unfit so Vitali probably outworks him. It's actually kind of similar to the Toney-Ruiz match up, Toney's certainly live, better fight in 2003 before Toney's injury
The 5'10 Toney's counters would be falling miles short against a 6'7 Vitali who knows how to use his reach and feet, but Toney's defence and him being a small target would be enough for him to not get hit clean and he would go the distance, but lose wide due to the huge size disadvantage
Vitali has too many advantages. Toney could probably go the distance but VK wins a very comfortable and pretty wide decision.
This is how I see it. Toney was short and without much power. He could match up heavyweights slightly taller and longer than he was thanks to his chin and counting skills; however Vitali is much taller and longer and a master of distance. He could hit Toney, who never a very active fighter all night and Toney wouldn't have the range to counter or power to bother Vitali. I see late round corner TKO stoppage win for Vitali. Maybe Toney could win a round or two.
