I've watched like 6 GGG fights from 2011-14, he was an animal. But if he was an animal, Roy was the king of the jungle.

    Agreed.

Kell went up so much in my estimation when he gave it back to GGG. It was like watching a bully get hit! Haha.

RJJ would make GGG look inept. Golovkin applies great pressure, but lacks variety and a plan b.

Kell has a 69” reach and he was hitting him with crisp combinations in those early rounds.

Picture Roy hitting Reggie Johnson with that blinding 1-2.

Not to mention GGG struggling with Canelo and Proksa's athleticsm and movement. If those two could skate away from Golovkin whilst fighting of the ropes, you can sure bet Roy Jones can!

True. Canelo might have concrete for feet, but his defensive skills are sublime.

When I say a field of peers I usually mean every belt Champion in the division, so in this case from Non Pareil through to Canelo.

As for why would he try walking through Jones, how else would he beat him. I don't think anyone has been fast enough to beat Jones punch for punch and the timing and counters wouldn't be enough to make up the difference in speed.

You'd have to go through hell to beat him.

That's why I think guys like Walker, Apostoli, LaMotta, Golovkin, McClellan as the ones with the greatest shot because they have the power, chin and pressure to walk through hell.

It just depends if it would be enough I guess.

When you come up with excuses for 5 consecutive examples of Jones doing what you said he was incapable of doing, it is clear that your bias against Jones is too strong for rational discourse. Johnson, Hill, and Griffin were NEVER an easy night for any fighter. And Jones destroyed them. And, although I agree the DQ in Griffin 1 was possibly appropriate, Jones was still ahead at the time of the DQ. The rematch showed what Jones was truly capable of when motivated.

I must be honest here mate, after watching the Sosa fight it actually re affirms my original thoughts.

Jones is content sitting on the ropes soaking up the pressure and then countering and turning his man.

That style is predicated on two things,

One he has to be able to take the pressure.

Two he needs to hit hard enough to discourage his opponent.

I see the way that Sosa fight started and I think if LaMotta is the one in there, Jones is in for a rough night. And if it can be made into a rough night I don't think Jones wins.

My thoughts exactly. Based on that specific fight. The other example where he looks awful vs a pressure fighter is the first Griffin fight. However, Sosa had a granite jaw, and Jones shattered it with near-ease. Like I said, Jones has issues with guys who pressure him, but he normally has the power to turn the trick and get the KO.

It's interesting how a movie can vastly inflate the perception of boxer.

James Toney said Sosa was the hardest hitter he's ever been in with. Good luck with Lamotta trying to left hook with Captain Hook.

There's a big difference between the methodical pressure Lamotta employed vs the swarming, mauling pressure a guy like Sosa did.

Jones handled Sosa's pressure about as well as it's possible to. He handled him about as easy as he did a fighter of the same mold (on a lower level) like Brannon. Not sure what you guys would have liked him to do differently.

I used to rate Jones as a H2H monster from 160 to 175 but right now I don't buy that he's near invincible.

I think it's a question mark that will always exist with him tbh.

What movie? I know Jones made a rap song but didn't know he'd been in a movie.

If LaMotta and Jones are gonna stand there trading left hooks until one drops, I know who I'd be favouring.

All fans ever like people to do is fight the best, this isn't about what I'd like to happen.

It's about debating how well Jones does against a field of opposition in comparison with Toney and Hopkins.
