Comeback Foreman beat decent fighters on his way up, and was competitive with one of the greatest ever and his record poo poo’s all over Braddocks.

    Both have shite resumes.

But only achieved one meaningful victory.

    Both beat the HW champ.

The poster I quoted said Braddock was like a blind dog finding a bone as Baer was his only decent victory. You could use the same argument for Old Foreman.

Prime for prime I agree, but I don't think that was the best of Louis.

    Foreman whips Braddock.

Look, I'm not nearly as high on Old Foreman as some. However, there's a type of opponent that he did well against, and Braddock is that kind of opponent. Braddock stands square to his man, and he has no real defence in terms of slipping or avoiding punches. He defends with his chin. Even lumbering Max Baer was able to land ad lib when he was arsed to try. So, the Pierre Coetzer school of boxing, then, except for that I reckon Coetzer would whip Braddock too.

His punching power (for his size) seems decent and accurate, but by no means is he a Louis. Moreover, we know he beat Baer (if you're impressed by that, I guess) but we also know that he managed to lose 24 other times to much less impressive opposition than any version of Foreman. 37-41 Hans Birkie and 29-32 Tom Patrick, being a couple.them.

A 180lb "heavyweight" with little power looking to trade square with Foreman?

I hope he's got life insurance and a funeral plan.

See my post on how Braddock beat Corn Griffin, Tuffy Griffiths, Art Lasky and John Henry Lewis

Man, I'm sorry, I just can't see it. He's a wide open sucker for a jab, and I can't even visualise how he could slip it because I don't recall Braddock ever slipping anything. Old Foreman's jab was slow, but it was accurate and heavy. He could throw it all night and he wouldn't even have to go looking for Braddock, cause James would be standing right in front of him waiting to eat it up.

I think Baer purportedly had an injured hand and was in with an opponent whom he didn’t take seriously. George Foreman in his Forties had a better defense than Baer, controlled guys in the clinches, worked the body and head well and was just a better fighter than Max Baer. The only other two guys who stopped Moorer was David Tua when Moorer was past prime and on the comeback trail and Evander Holyfield who makes most peoples top 10. Aside from Joe Louis ( who killed him ) Braddock didn’t fight the list of quality opponents who Moorer met and still managed to retire with the most atrocious record of any heavyweight champion in history

Generation 1 Foreman = one of the stronger lineal heavyweight champions.

Generation 3 Foreman = one of the weaker lineal heavyweight champions.

Old Foreman's accomplishments were very impressive given the context of his age, but he was very beatable.

I agree wholeheartedly, but we are matching prime Braddock against old Foreman.

That makes it a competitive fight IMO.

Interestingly, when the clock was ticking for Baer, he also developed a cross arm defense.

I just think George Forman in the nineties was still better than Braddock or Baer. I would favor him to beat both.
