Not when you factor in it was John Ruiz that Roy beat. That fight epitomized the criticism of Roy’s middle career; carefully selecting opponents that possessed some type of belt and very little threat. At its absolute best, and even then it’s a stretch, Roy’s win over Ruiz is equal to Manny’s over margarito. 2-3 years ago I came across an old Ring magazine that had 20 or so experts give their take on the then upcoming jones - Ruiz fight; 19 of them picked Jones.
And what? You don’t think a flyweight going to Jr Middleweight and back down to welterweight is special?

And Pacquiao hasn’t feasted on the decayed corpses of the ghosts of Jeff Lacy and Trinidad. My goodness, what Roy did by making those two fight him would be like Manny facing the current versions of Ivan Calderon and Mickey Ward in order to prove “Y’all must’ve forgot”.

Pac. More longevity, deeper resume, and a top level win towards the end of his career.

    Against Jones?

Gerald McClellan or Julian Jackson have a great shot at knocking him clean out.

Although Jackson was a bit long in the tooth by then.

Okay, but we would need to assess the strength of the divisions for it to have any relevance. Otherwise you’re just left with meaningless stats.

Roy and Dariusz should have fought at LHW.

We all know of the saga. It’s boring. It’s been done to death. But you couldn’t make a case for Dariusz being the better LHW.

A former MW easily beating any top 10 HW is a special achievement.

He’d have gotten a lot more credit had they have been more excitement in the fight and if Ruiz had possessed a different style.

Ruiz proved that he was a top ten HW of his era.

All things considered, I don’t think Manny’s win over Marg was better. Although it was a great win apart from the title being on the line at a C-W.

I never said that what Manny did wasn’t special.

    Who is celebrating those wins?

I was talking about prime for prime.

I know the divisions Roy fought in are considered weak traditionally but for my money he still picked up a very good resume.

The problem is that if John Ruiz possessed a different style Roy Jones would never have fought him.

There's no shame whatsoever in coming 2nd to a top tier ATG like Manny even if it's a very distant second.

    It depends what style.

He still deserves credit for easily beating him.

He’d still be a top 10-15 HW today.

Hopkins 160 reign was very unimpressive list of names. Barrera retired Hamed and made a prime Morales damn near swallow his teeth. As for Toney, great fighter, a notch above Hopkins.
