I don’t think this fight is a given for Whyte whatsoever. He may he old and wayyy past his prime but he will still ask questions of Whyte. This is Whyte who laboured past Wach and struggled with Chisora.
Povetkin coming off 12 rounds with Hughie and 12 rounds with Hunter, who are both clearly more skilful boxers than Whyte. I think this will be competitive for 6/7 rounds before Whyte’s youth pulls him through a roughhouse dog fight.
Whyte turned 32 in April. Povetkin will be a few days shy of his 41st birthday when they meet in the ring. The Russian hasn't even got a fighting style that ages well. And he just came through a very gruelling fight with Hunter, a draw that many had him losing. Povetkin perhaps should really be retired by now. Whyte should do a job on him. He's bigger, he's younger, he's in his prime now. If Whyte can't beat Povetkin, he needs to retire too.
To my knowledge, the WBC suspended all testing for a 6 week period during the pandemic. Pedvetkin has been in Russia and Whyte has been in Portugal. We know Russia generally blanket juice all of their athletes but I’ve no idea about testing in Portugal.
I’ve invoiced him on your behalf, bud and warned him over the use of other forum phrases such as Rice Pudding Ruiz Jn, Dullian Shyte, Tony Dosh etc haha. All good thanks, hope you’re well too
I’m liking Povetkin’s chances in this, whyte needs to prove why he deserves a shot at the title and his last few performances against the likes of parker, rivas, wach have been so dull! Add the whole leaving tibbs things a month before the fight and it makes things very interesting. both Povetkin and whyte love to hook and do it well, could be a case of who lands first
Hunter has got a chin on him and plenty of heart. Solid fighter. AJ seems a bit more easy to daze and concuss Just cant see Hunter ever beating AJ Hunter vs Whyte would have been a better fight than Whyte vs Povetkin I’d give Whyte the edge
Whyte v Hunter would be a good fight to see and I make your man favourite should Tony Dosh PPV agree to a rematch.
This is sensible, but the flip side is that Whyte has struggled with guys like Chisora, Paker, and Helenius himself, was in terrible shape the last time out, and just fired his trainer. I would say 55% Whyte, 45% Povetkin. No huge advantage either way all things in context.
Hunter is a huge risk low reward fight for anyone and I think he is capable of upsetting a few in the division. Would like to see Dubois in there with someone of this calibre after 2-3 more fights - no point waiting 7 years fighting puddings.
I totally agree. Michael Hunter is currently chairman of the "Who needs him" club. Michael Hunter is far better than people think.
Like Hunter but let himself down big time last year by ducking an IBF eliminator with Hrgovic. Purse bids were agreed and the fight negotiated before Hunter withdrew to fight an absolute bum on Triller
