Liston is stronger, punches harder, has a better jab, can fight going forward and going backwards, has a better chin and just as good a technique.
Liston was a lot better boxer than is generally appreciated and he had no problem backtracking when under fire.I'd say Louis was faster had a lot quicker jab, the ability to throw blistering combinations ,and threw a much better right hand.Liston's was described as,being thrown "the way a longshoreman uses his hook".Louis was also better at covering a ring ,he kept his opponent in front of him with good lateral movement.Sonny never learned to cut off the ring ,if you circled out of range he just followed you with no sideways movement.
He is steobger but not harder puncher! Marciano proves that with bigger KO rato,beter oponents and even Ezzard who spared with Liston said Marciano hit harder! Better chin?Nope!He got knocked by frather fosted Ali,beaten by same Ali in first fight,got knocked by LHW Martin,Marshall broke his jaw...not to mention that LHW Ray Patterson Floyds brother knocked him cold in sparing and Foster did that too! Marciano was never counted out or never knocked out!Marciano chin is much better! And what about heart and stamina?Marciano is better in both!

I was comparing Liston with Louis, not with Marciano. But since you brought it up, Liston did punch harder than Marciano. The KO percentage is not relevant since it also depends on the opposition he faced. Liston would have also been ableto KO the men Marciano did. And please don't embarrass yourself by bringing Liston's loss to Ali as proof he had a weaker chin. That was a clear dive. As for heart and stamina, those are irrelevant since Marciano won't make it past round 5. That is if he makes it that far, Liston might KO him in round 1.

Prime Liston is a better fighter than a prime Joe Louis? no way. I don’t know any boxing people who would agree with that. liston was a great fighter. He is a favourite among Some people who know boxing, but I don’t know anyone who thinks or has said prime Liston was a better fighter than Joe Louis. It’s ...unheard of.
Charles would always fair well against Liston. Styles wise. La starza May even do ok (not saying he’d win but style wise would do well). Prime Archie would give Liston fits and if he didn’t get knocked out (which he may)would win. Extremely slow for him. The rest get knocked out. Archie and Charles have a chance to win to answer your question. I don’t think Walcott’s chin survives. That being said Marcianos best are better then Listons best. Liston did make shorter work of his opponents but he also got knocked out or stopped several times at varying stages of his career. Both are top five in my HW rankings.
