It's not really his chin that's the main issue, he can take a decent shot. It's his poor recovery. It took him a few rounds to recover from the left hook and body punches Whyte landed on him; After Wlad dropped him he was on shaky legs for over 3 rounds; He looked poor for a few rounds after Povetkin clipped him; He was gone after Ruiz dropped etc, etc. When Joshua gets hurt he always stays hurt.

Why ? You're born with it. You can't over come it with any form of training. Some chins are better than others.
Are you suggesting that Fighters with softer chins lack courage ?

AJ has fought and been hit by some pretty decent punchers and at Heavyweight. Massive lads with unbelievable power. Yet, he hasn't been sparked.
Google Frank Bruno v Jumbo Cummings. This is the difference.

Chin is decent it’s his powers of recovery that’s the issue. That straight right flush down the pipe that he took from Wlad would have KO’d most heavyweights including guys like Wilder, Pulev, Ortiz etc.

Say what you want about Joshua’s chin but no way he would have been dropped by Pajkic and Cunningham.

He has actually shown he can cover up well. Joshua gets a lot of stick for not moving his head but Wilder doesn’t when he doesn’t even move his head either he just bops in and out of range using his athleticism. Joshua was able to duck Wlad’s left hooks multiple time’s despite being 250 lbs and gassed out.

It’s amazing how much you’ve exaggerated this. He didn’t need 5 rounds to recover against Wlad. He was fine within 20 seconds of taking that left hook from Whyte as well. Bloody hell lmao.

His chin is decent. If it wasn't then he would have been KOed by Wlad instead of just knocked down. The Whyte left hook would have probably dropped him as well, not just shaken him up for a bit. Povetkin might have dropped him when he caught him with that uppercut left hook combo early in their fight. Instead Joshua's legs buckled a moment and he was fine after. Ruiz wouldn't have had to put him down multiple times before the ref waved him off (on his feet).

Joshua's problem (as a couple of people have pointed out) is his recovery ability and his upright and kind of stiff legged stance that means he takes punches flush without much absorption. That's where the Bruno comparison comes in. Joshua can take a good shot without necessarily dropping or being clean KOed, but his body shuts down which gives opponents a great opportunity to close the show. Compare that to Fury, who has a worse chin than Joshua, but who's loose enough to drop or roll with shots that hurt him and doesn't get as badly compromised as a result.

Now that Joshua's lost some of the bulk and appears to be a bit looser he might start to suffer less from these effects, though paradoxically he might get dropped easier.

Fury's chin isn't in the same ballpark as Parker's or Ruiz's. Both those men could take a bat to the head and feel nothing but a minor irritation.

Fury's strengths lie in his fighting heart and survival instincts. He'll always be in danger of being hurt; he was hurt by Firtha, Wallin, Cunningham, Pacjik and McDermott, and if those guys can hurt you then anyone can. But his response to being put on the verge of unconsciousness is the best in the HW game.

AJs chin is no where near Bruno level of frozen, because he has been rocked and recovered. For example, Povetkin and Whyte clipped him with shots that would have sent Bruno to Iceland without a return ticket.

Also the shot that Wlad landed on him and knocked him down with, would have definitely ended Bruno.

AJ has a good enough chin. People under rate his chin.

Bruno had an average chin until he was hurt, then he froze and couldnt recover.

It was like Frankenstein standing up after that big shot from klitschko, he had slow heavy legs from the short hook whyte caught him with.

the Ruiz fight was a weird on, something definitely wasn’t right but I don’t believe the concussion from joey daweko story, these guys are professionals and sparring always ends a week before the day of the fight, can you still have concussion a week later? I don’t know

I think AJ’s chin is ok but it’s the shots that the temple that he struggles with.

I do believe his punch resistance is slowly going and because of that they will want to keep this big money train going, fights with fury , wilder and whyte are big money makers but I believe from now on AJ will fight all of these guys the same way he fought Ruiz in the rematch. No risks taken, on the outside winning rounds with the jab and 1-2, not sure that will work against fury though

I think his overall ability to box well having taken big head shots is maybe about average for a top heavyweight, or possibly a shade below. Clearly not elite like a Parker, Ruiz, Vitali, McCall type but by no means embarrassingly bad or even a particularly pronounced weakness.

I actually remember watching the Cummings fight. Frank was really stunned at the end of the round. Didn't the ref actually walk him back or Terry L? But anyway it was the first sign that Bruno s chin wasn't on a Ali type level..
