There'd be a lot less talk about Witherspoon in here.

Witherspoon was in the middle of his demons at the time.

Do not get me wrong, I thought he was going to beat Bonecrusher, but with over 30 years hindsight shows Tim at the time, was no where near what would be required to beat 87 Tyson. Indeed I do not think he ever showed the form to give Tyson a decent fight.

In March 87, it may have actually been more boring than Bonecrusher/Tyson, as Witherspoon was more cute than Smith and thus possibly is even better at shutting down Tyson's offence, but at the cost of doing nothing offensively himself.

I have too many doubts about Witherspoon's genuine ability as well as his mental and physical condition to think he could really trouble Tyson.

I think it goes along the lines of the Tyson/Thomas bout.

It's an interesting one, because Witherspoon could be unpredictable and so might have caused a couple of 'spectator' moments, in stages. More likely, however, is Spoon's mental fortitude is not on full power and he cracks under the relentless Tyson pressure.

I do think, for a while at least, it would have been one of the more competitive-looking of Tyson's bouts.

Spoon got knocked out by smith so he would not last too much with a prime Tyson, i think that this super spoon history is going too far, he is being overrated here. Tyson would ko him in the mid rounds.

Tim loses a 7-5 decision. If it is a 15 rounder, those chances of winning rise tremendously.

I like Witherspoon and feel he was one of the better 80s heavyweights, but he too came with his own baggage. I think the other posts comparing this one to the pinklon fight are pretty on the money. Witherspoon has some success early(and even stuns Tyson briefly with his "can opener") but Mike ends up being too much and stops him round 6ish.

I prefer to think of Tim of the Holmes fight against Mike of the pre-Berbick period. Tim would have won imo, 10 round SD.

The Wither of the Bonecrusher fight vs. 1988 Mike gets stopped, stopped, stopped.

EEK! I didn't mean to offend you, @Sangria ! I'd better look back and see who you're backing on this topic.

As usual, I could be entirely wrong.
