Everytime when Baer discussion starts here, some people say that Baer accomplished something only because he was much bigger than his opponents. I decided to check out his record against fighters that outweighed him and here are results: 17-2 with 12 stoppages and 0 KO losses Here is his record against 200+lbs fighters: 29-4 with 21 stoppages and 2 stoppage losses Make your own conclusion.
Baer fought a lot of bigs. Some as tall as 6”8 I believe. The size myth on this forum is nauseating. As if people can’t gain weight if needed?
What about the "film disadvantage myth"? https://viewsync.net/watch?v=amFgqFUw4wM&t=311.52&v=cf67JevtNcc&t=229.45&mode=solo
I wonder, if someone like Foreman or Liston looks any better than that? Not saying that they weren't better, but nobody says they hit hard because of size advantage.
I´ve stated numerous of times that both 70s George and Liston indeed had a size adv. Thats also something to keep in mind. The environment of Joe Louis (all of Joe Louis opponents PLUS the oppenents of them!) was stated as an avarage of just below 190lb. Thats the background weight of the environment to overcome. I don´t know if Baer fought heavier than this, but I´m 100% sure he himself was a good 10lb heavier than the background environment of the 30s/40s.
Tbh I'd probably agree that Baer hit harder than both Liston and Foreman. But it was their other attributes that made them infinitely more dangerous than Baer, and able to put their power into better use than Baer ever could.
Although I don't agree with you that Baer hit harder, that is a good point. Baer had no kind of jab. Foreman and Liston had ATG jabs. There were experts of physical and psychological manipulation, cutting off the ring, and they were very accurate punchers.
What on earth makes Baer a harder puncher than Sonny and Foreman?? 20 rounds with Levinsky? 7 rounds with Griffiths with a 16lb weight adv? 10 with Schmeling via 14lb weight adv? 11 rounds for shaky chin Carnera? Dropping him like ten times? 7 for Galento in a direct shootout? How many rounds and knockdowns would both Sonny and Foreman need for those 5?
