No he wasn’t. He was knocked off balance by Povetkin but was never hurt or dazed. Parker didn’t land anything that hurt AJ at all. If you’re gonna say AJ was hurt from Povetkin then you’ll have to say GGG was hurt from Canelo because Canelo knocked him off balance with one punch.

Nah, he definitely felt that. And yes, Parker did. I don't think he noticed himself, but he did. Was a little uppercut one of the times he got on the inside. I feel like perhaps the 9th round but could be wrong. And the GGG-Canelo incident you refer to was a result of a parry rather than the punch itself.

A selection of current HWs whose punch resistance I have respect for

    Chisora - Iron

    Usyk - Iron at CW

Povetkin - stopped x 1 but only when way past prime by a much bigger, longer, and heavier opponent who is a huge puncher and was ranked #1 at the weight

Michael ''The Bounty'' Hunter - seems borderline iron so far

Joseph Parker - at least borderline iron

Fat Andy - at least borderline iron

Hrgovic - looks iron to me or at least borderline

Wilder's always had a shaky chin. He demonstrated that in the amateurs when he wasn't allowed to pick and choose who he fought.

To his credit he never stops believing in himself, but any decent shot that lands on his grill is liable to put him down.

What did khan take against maidana after he was initially hurt? Does khan have a good chin.

As i,ve said to joshuas credit he tries to fight his way through it. It takes a good bit to completely finish him...but initially getting him hurt is a big weakness of his. As i said khan was the same...he took pelters from maidana after being initially hurt. He hung on in other fights. Even against garcia he took a beating to finish. His chin is still shaky tho in much the same way as joshuas is.

We,ve almost had to make out ruiz is a killer to try to make out joshuas chins allright.

Joshua's got a Khan-like chin now? Bloody hell, you don't know when to stop digging do you?

Look, no one's saying Joshua's chin is granite, but he can clearly take a better shot than most else he'd have been flatlined by now. You can make whatever excuses you like for why that hasn't happened (Wlad gassed out, Whyte injured his shoulder, Povetkin magically decreased four inches in height) but past a certain point you can't keep beating the same drum and expect to convince anyone that isn't already invested in that particular narrative.

His recovery abilities aren't the best; that's already been acknowledged. But that's not the same as saying he has a shaky chin. People with bad chins get knocked unconscious. They don't walk through shots and keep firing back. Otherwise you're forced into claiming Foreman had a bad chin due to how poorly he reacted in the Lyle fight. Joshua's shown plenty of times he can take a shot. That he occasionally gets hurt and needs to recoup is no crime considering who he's shared the ring with.

You actually make a few good points mixed in with all the rest, but claiming that Joshua has a chin on par with Khan and that he intentionally avoids big punchers is gibberish of the highest order, and badly undermines whatever legitimate argument you're trying to make.

Chisora's been hurt by a number of non-punchers. He got rocked by Edmund Gerber and Ondrej Pala, and Takam had him in all sorts of trouble.

Hunter's been rocked and dropped by Povetkin and Usyk. I'd be hesitant in making any claims on his chin thus far.

The guy has an agenda. He says Joshua has a weak chin for being hurt by Wlad left hook but after he took that left hook he wasn’t on weak legs and he been took 2 more brutal left hooks and a straight right afterwards and still didn’t go down and then he gives it the “yeah but he can keep fighting while he’s out of it”. Dude is so stupid. He says Joshua can’t take a decent shot and then goes on to say he can but is still hurt. Which one is it? Can he take a good shot or not? Man is so annoying. He’s consistently proven wrong and he continues to double down. He has no respect for how hard Wlad and Whyte both hit. I swear he’s one of those dudes off YouTube I’ve seen who have said that GGG could take a shot better than Joshua from a heavyweight.

I'm aware of that but Chisora does or at least used to have an iron mandible section. Might not be cast-iron but he fights with a very aggressive style, eats a lot of punches and only the huge punching Haye was able to put him over in his prime and even then it was from a combination of very heavy shots in quick succession.

In addition to Hunter facing plenty of huge behemoths and big punchers up at SHW as an amateur and to the best of my knowledge was never stopped by any of them, he's also taken big shots from the likes of Povetkin, Bakole and Kuzman all of whom with the exception of Povetkin were much bigger than him. Povetkin has one of the best KO HL reels at the weight and he can hurt anyone if he catches them right and Hunter didn't appear to be badly hurt. Usyk caught him with about 10,000 shots and the HW version of Hunter of recent fights is like 20-25lbs heavier now.

He still recovers quicker than joshua does tho. He gets his faculties back quicker. Whats letting wilder down in
Yeah not a bad post. I still say joshuas chin is a big weakness...that and his recovery. Its not much better than khans. The difference is joshuas got something to keep the opponent away with and its a big something. Khan never had that...just his speed.

Its not like i,ve got an agenda against him or that....i,m actually a fan. Already stated all the good things hes got going for him. Which are a lot.

I think it,ll let him down again tho...although it wont be the first time guys have got away with it by making up for it by changung approaches etc. Klitchko himself being a prime example.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure how getting up from the shot Wlad caught him with indicates a poor chin, and I don't care how old Wlad was at the time he fought him. That was a monstrous shot he put his whole weight into.

When you're fighting the type of opponents Joshua has since turning pro, and doing it in the timeframe he's done you're going to take some knocks, some losses even. This isn't something which needs to be made more of than it is. This binary notion that you either can't be hurt or you have a chin like wet paper needs to stop. Joshua's chin is fine; he'll get hurt if he takes a big shot but he's not just going to crumple to the canvas from any old glancing blow. Fighters will either need to land the mother of all punches on his grill (something akin to Rahman's OH right on Lewis) or continually batter him to the canvas like Ruiz. Neither is going to be the easiest proposition, especially now that Joshua's slimmed down and appears to be focusing more on staying loose and fighting at range.

I'm not sure how sincere most people calling Joshua glass-jawed actually are, and how man are just saying it to get a rise or to big up their own favourite HW. Most of the arguments are poor and rely on personal attacks on Ruiz, similar to how detractors of Wlad continually brought up how out of shape "part-time golfer" Corrie Sanders was. No consideration of how genuinely dangerous and skilled both men are/were. Ah well, it's just something to slap down whenever it pops up I guess. Likely any time Joshua looks slightly uncomfortable after taking a shot in future contests.

Meanwhile iron-chinned Deontay Wilder will get splattered by Fury again and likely retire. Or go on and get demolished by some up and comer like Arslanbek Makhmudov. But what bravery! What recovery ability to get up and get knocked down again!

    Eh, boxing fans.

His poor recovery might be an innate thing which he can't change, but I've a feeling it's mostly a composite of being overly muscled and perhaps lacking the experience to control his nerve in testing circumstances. Now that's he's lost a lot of weight and appears to be a bit looser and more at ease his recovery might see an improvement. Maybe not. We'll see.

Yes, you're right, it does come across as extreme as its what you're born with and there's precious little you can do about it. Similar to being born with a micro *****, hereditary baldness, ginger hair (no problem for me but some people see it as a target), a really zitty face, people who wet themselves etc. etc.

He's got an average chin in my opinion and to be honest Bruno had a better chin than a lot of people remember, he just didn't react to well to flush shots when his gas tank had emptied and certainly didn't fold in some cowardly manner.

Being born with a glass chin is infinitely worse than all of those sans being born ginger and even then I'd much rather be a ginge than be packing glass up top. That being said, I'm no fan of the bald and anyone who knows me will attest to that.

I'd say average too. As I said earlier in the thread, he's fought a lot of punchers amateur and pro so you have to take that into consideration.

How do you know you don’t have a weak chin? Has your chin been tested before? Also I’d rather have a weak chin than have Male patter baldness or a micro ***** haha. I just wouldn’t bother getting into fights with people and would ultimately mind my own business. Also I think it’s funny when the term “glass chin” gets thrown about as if any bloke off the street could knock out Khan when they definitely couldn’t. Khan has a better chin that regular people because he’s conditioned to take punches and regular folk aren’t.
