It's also been stated on this thread that 2010 Briggs (and 2008 Peter) would beat Berbick, Tucker, Holmes and Spinks.
That's actually quite an easy case to make to be fair. What will Briggs do when his bum rush tactic isn't enough to bowl Thomas over? He'll make a silent agreement and plod forward into jab after jab. Thomas pumping out that jab has an easy time outboxing Briggs over 12 rounds.
Oh, but it would be. Because by that stage of his career Thomas was finished and only one step removed from a bum. Meanwhile, we have Thomas taking 7 rounds to deal with an ACTUAL bum that's even worse than the guys Briggs smashed. You realise that Hosea only beat 2 (two) guys with winning records right? Notice how Thomas is as stiff as a mummy and how his feet are gone? Briggs would blow through him and his weak ass jab like a hurricane.
The difference here is Briggs never blew through a single ranked opponent. Anyone who was remotely world class stood up to him. Thomas didn't blow through anyone, so why are you surprised that he stuck behind his jab here?
Doesn't matter, Briggs never ever showed he had the capability of walking through anyone with a world ranking. The fact Thomas could jab and move alone is enough for him to win this fight. At the time Vitali fought Briggs everyone knew it was a poor fight. No one claimed it would be worth anything at all as Briggs had failed to achieve a single victory over a ranked opponent since his last defeat. If you want to argue Vitali is superior to Holyfield, Briggs is the wrong argument to use.
If that version of Thomas was world class, it just shows how pisspoor the class was. LOL maybe you want to watch that clip again. Hosea (bum city special) manages to land plenty on Thomas, who is doing his best impression of a mime stuck in a box. Briggs would take his head off. People are bigging Thomas up as some sort of big win for Tyson (and Holy, by extension) ... Briggs is exactly the right argument to use because it puts this 'great win' into context. My eyes tell me that Thomas is long gone from his glory days, and that beating that version is not exactly a reason to throw a party. The same can go for Holmes and Foreman who were way past their sell-by date.
Obvious for you. A lot of posters disagree with you though. Interesting that you are now backtracking on the resume point that you previously made. Could have been misunderstanding but I am not sure it was one. Anyway, your good friend Mendoza firmly believes Vitali has the better resume and there is no reasonable case to be made for that in my opinion
Ever era has poor fighters in its top ten, Briggs fought through two of them and was only able to beat 2. One in an absolute gift against the oldest champ in history and one where he had to pull it out of the bag in the 12th round against a man who actually managed to make Vakuev look good lol. Thomas is no big win, he's just a win. A better win than Briggs who never once ran through a guy with a world ranking. Not once. In his entire career.
Had he won Haye would have had to sign a 2 fight deal with K2 agreeing to defend against a challenger of their choice,[one of them] in a location of their choice .This was a 2 page article in The Boxing News .
Total nonsense. Lewis was a coward ? That's why he fought punchers like Tua,Morrison,Ruddock,Tyson,Mercer,Bruno. You're just ridiculous.
