You forgot that even if a man is not born of his mother he still has to nail Fury to the canvas. It is kind of like Dracula...you have to know his special weaknesses and then you only have an outside chance.
Liston & much of boxing back then was in the pocket of the mafia, so we don't know which fights were legit & which had pre-determined outcomes/performances. Therefore his career has an asterisk attached. You can pick holes in Furys career too sure but lets not act like Liston was infallible .. Eddie Machen who would be a pretty small CW today frustrated the hell out of him & had him low blowing through sheer exasperation so don't act like Fury couldn't..
You can easily flip that to be fair. Marty Marshall who'd be a small CW today hurt Liston multiple times. He had a 30% KO ratio. But it's never that simple.. see Fury beat both Wilder & Klitschko who are monster punchers yet he was dropped by the much lighter punching CW Cunningham. That's just boxing.. Ali was blasted somewhere over the rainbow by small Henry Cooper yet he beat Foreman & Frazier.. That shot Cunningham threw was helacious to be fair too
I would favor Fury against Joshua, Ruiz and Uysk as well but until he beats a couple of those guys, he has NOT cleaned out or dominated the division. We all saw what a flawed fighter Wilder is. I need to see more from Fury. All that said, I do think he is the best heavyweight in the world right now.
Where do people get that 84 reach? He had 80 aginst Leotis Mathis. That is still alot for guy 6 foot tall
I could easily see Liston beating Fury. Nothing Fury has done to date has proven to me that he would handle Liston easily. Fury could go into the fight totally underestimating Liston just as the op is, and end up getting his ass kicked. Over the course of several fights is a different matter. There is very little difference in reach between the two, despite the huge height difference and contrary to widespread opinion, Sonny could box a bit. Too much is based on the Ali fights. It is possible for a smaller man to outwork a much larger fighter ( some kinda thermal equation vs surface area **** ? someone out there knows what I mean ) causing him to overheat and break down in a long fight. The Liston jab would give Fury fits I think. Sonny is a fascinating fighter. You should watch this if you get the chance. This content is protected
There is a fat unfit Mexican sitting in the Top 5 who has a real punchers chance with any of the so called Top Heavyweights at the moment....Let that sink in at the Moment a Prime fighter like David Tua if he was around now would reek Havoc with this lot at the moment...Like I keep saying Fury is the best of an ordinary Lot.!!!
Wasn't Fury knocked by cruiser bum Cunningham and didn't Wilder one handed brawler knocked him into yesterday? Liston is bigger than Cunningham, better reach,punch,power,skills... Liston is as hard puncher as Wilder with better reach,chin,skills.... Fury would be bloody mess from that telephone pole jab and Liston wpuld find him with uppercut!
