Jokes about his chin aside his speed was atg. I think he was one of the best boxers in the world for a long time but his poor durability over shadowed this. Thoughts?

I agree that he was very fast. Offensively he was also a force. His defense and as already mentioned, durability was where he lacked

he actually had good skill and was very hard to outbox. You had to hurt and bully Khan to beat him. The way he took apart Judah, Barrera, and Devon Alexander was very impressive. He showed a great jab, great flurries, good ring IQ, had the ring awareness to avoid backing himself into a corner, and completely shut down his opponents offense. He also had a powerful body attack (dropping the durable Maidana early). And could be very explosive when opening up and letting his hands go.

On defense he didn't have much imagination outside of simply covering up or clinching. He paid for it in the Collazo fight where he lost a point for excessive holding. His chin would have always been an issue, but if he worked on actual defensive skill like slipping, parrying, countering, etc he would have been a MUCH Better fighter. I have no idea why he never trained with the Mayweathers when they offered.

That Miadana fight was a good one. Miadana came on strong late and made it close

He wasn’t really skilled. He was just really fast and patterned his style well around that speed. Very good at closing and reopening the distance with his feet and flurrying with his hands. Rinse and repeat. Not really a thinker in the ring. That was good enough to beat most, though. He had his game down, I’ll give him that. Kinda like a glass jawed Hector Camacho, but not even that skilled, honestly. And I think Camacho gets overrated in the skills department.

    His speed was what??

Not very good, he kept cross stepping his back leg and being punched while doing so. Amateurish.

    Barrera lol
    Good ring iq lol
That's way he had to be instructed and reminded of what to do from ring side constantly lol
His over all footwork was shyte including his balance

A unique style which many couldn't deal with

    Many underestimated his power

and most couldn't handle his speed

    People also underestimated his timing.

To get KTFO in 2008 then base himself out of America and within 2 years be basically the man at 140 after defeating a volume power puncher in Maidana was a great achievement. Bradley Alexander was a horrible fight then Bradley didn't want any of Khan's smoke so took a year out signing over to Bob for a Pac payday, which you can't blame him for.

He did show new tricks under Hunter and prolonged his career ever so slightly but the damage was already done after PEDerson and the IBF screwed him then he underestimated Garcia trying to fight and put damage on him.

He was too brave for his own good, when the Bradley fight didn't come off he immediately jumped at Peterson one of the next best men, didn't negotiate well and went to Peterson's hometown and the rest is history a massive mistake it was. Judges, Ref and commission were against Khan, I had him winning by 1 point.

Most importantly whether you like him or not he was exciting, really exciting. This man got me hooked on boxing back when he fought for free on Channel 5 and introduced me to US boxing and Manny Pacquiao. I owe him everything.

If It wasn't for Khan i'd probably be a dirty casual AJ fanboy with no idea about boxing

It's possible to have good technique, good fundamentals, but still have poor ring IQ. He had good amateur coaches that helped him win a world title. But he couldn't think for himself, and couldn't adjust mid fight when a opponent began to figure him out. He always started out reasonably well before unraveling.

He wasn't that skilled at all imo. He was just extremely quick and had good range.

I've seen some nonsense posts on this forum but the worst one by far was someone picking Khan to beat Pernell Whitaker, that told me his hype had got a but too real.

Khan was good and exciting and maybe for a very small period wad the best in the world in his division, but his chin, ring IQ and lack of generalship would always cost him.

he relied on his speed way to much
his ignorance is why he lacked / neglected
    basic fundamentals

i mean he ran to hunter claiming freddie never taught him defence lol

how many fights in world title all his claims
to then admit he never understood are bothered with basic defence
thats what i want hunter to teach me lol
so of theses comments just goes to show
    some people dksab
ring iq and khan in the same sentence is absolutely laughable

This right here, short and sweet. Skilled offensively but amateurish at times when defending himself. Lack of proper footwork, so he can’t get out of harms way. If he was truly skilled all-round, he would be able to protect his fragile chin better.

Every boxer gets instructed on what to do in the corner. That's why they're there. How long have you been watching boxing?
