I'm going slightly against the grain here and can't see this as anywhere near a 50/50 fight . Not that Dubois is a world beater (at the moment) but I just do not rate Joyce in the professional ranks at all, so slow and cumbersome and very very easy to hit. Joyce seems to be rolling the dice here (which he probably needs to do) but I can't see anything other than a brutal early KO victory for Dubois. For those honesty believing it is a genuine 50/50 then you need to seriously lump on the 3/1 available on Joyce to win, I wouldn't touch Joyce at double those odds.
After last night, I’m reiterating my prediction that DDD can make this an explosive early night. Joyce looked horrible.
Totally agree Joyce boxes like he's been solidified in treacle absolutely no head movement or footwork and just walks on to punches I'm not doubting his power or chin but how many of Dubois's bombs is he going to take to land his own.
FW making noises that Joyce v Dubois is close to being postponed again. With social distancing, the O2 will only allow 1000 of its 20000 seats to be used. For every seat occupied, the seats next to them, in front of and behind cannot be occupied. This is also not taking into account any second spike.
David Haye and Paul Dempsey were gamely talking up Joyce vs Dubois as two world level HW's, a title clash level fight without any titles. That's baloney. They are prospects and JJ is very long in the tooth to be a prospect. DDD's potential ceiling is a lot higher if he keeps showing progression. With Joe I think we've seen what he has and it's not quite enough. The juggernaut's only chance is the support of a promoter who is able to guide him into carefully matched fights. I think Joyce was shopped around the various promoters to no avail, he's not charismatic, exciting or young enough to justify their investment. He signed with Queensberry but he's not really their guy is he? He has only ended up with Frank in order to be prepared and then fed to DDD. He's 2020's Nathan Gorman, with more power* but less boxing ability. *and hair
If Joe can contain DDDs step jab he could pull this off. So much of Daniel's work is done behind the step jab and if Joe could beat him to it, as he does have the reach advantage, or if he could make Daniel pay by way of a right hand counter, it would take a lot of DDDs rhythm. You have to contain that step jab, when facing DDD.
I thought Joyce looked decent after the first round. He can't afford to rush in the first round or two against Dubois, against Wallisch he took too many right hands early on. To be fair to Joyce he does have good shot selection, he jabs to the body a lot which most heavyweights don't do. When Wallisch did let his hands go, Joyce did the same but then continued to do so, it was like he always has to have the last say! His volume or output of punches is ridiculous. I think he was briefly stunned by a bodyshot Wallisch threw, only for 1/2 a second or so then he reset and came straight back forward. Given that in the Jennings fight he was hurt by a bodyshot also, I've got a feeling he's vulnerable to the body. If you look at the type of fighter he is, it makes sense to target his body, slow his output down and tire him out. He's not the quickest anyway so if he tires he will become really really slow and I think that's when he could be there for the taking. Both Dubois and Joyce's work all comes off the jab, so a big part early on will be who can make there's the doninant jab in the fight
Does he have the handspeed to beat DDD to the jab? Maybe watching him is a bit deceptive, but he seems a little slow and lumbering to be executing any plan that depends on swift action. Although it would be nice if he and his trainer can come up with something which asks new questions of DDD. He's got that wealth of amateur experience and must presumably have come up against a wide variety of fighter by now. He's also not a stupid guy and he's had more than enough time to prep. That's a good point. It's a neglected shot, but the Joyce jab to the body looks like quite a weapon. Wallisch didn't enjoy it.
Yeah fair assumption. I thought he got exposed a fair bit in the Jennings fight tbh and that was a year ago now and has barely been active since (obviously with covid), but yeah, I think Dubois walks right through him tbh and stops him mid rounds.
