When did Joyce start boxing? Why is he almost 50 and never had a proper challenge? Strange.

Spent lots of time in the amateurs and with the Olympic team. Don't think he even went pro till he was 30 or something mate

Lartey. Catches Dubois with a hook and his legs jerk a bit and he forces himself away on the back foot.

Disagree, he is very underrated and he may look far from amusing, but he gets the job done, not just wallisch, but plenty of big names in the amateurs, Tony Yoka, Filip Hrgovic, 6’9 Ivan Dychko, Ali Eren Demirezien, Muhammadrasul Majidov, he beat all of these so it has to show he’s better than he looks, he’s unpredictable, has way better feet than he’s given credit for and knows his range, he does get hit at times, but he knows how to take the sting off the punches and I seen yesterday, he got hit flush, Wallisch followed up, but Joyce avoided the rest using head movement, so I don’t think he’s a ko waiting to happen, obviously anyone can be ko’d but I don’t think Joyce is going to get ko’d as soon as he steps up as some think

That’s a GREAT point! But... What about Dubois then? Is he powerful enough to (un)bend time?

He was already 29 when he won silvder at the olympics. Ray Mercer was the same, he turned pro at 28 after winning gold as a heavyweight inthe olympics.

He`s no less skilled than Dubois that`s for sure.

At a cursory glance he is reminiscent of Foreman, big, lumbering, wide, heavy looking shots, aggressive, all action style and a heavy jab.

But as you say he isn't the new Foreman, there are some clear differences when you break them down. Joyce for example actually has better footwork, movement and balance than Foreman did. Foreman in contrast didn't need to move as much as Joyce as he'd use his gloves and forearms to push, pull, redirect opponent that came to him and so could create space that way.

Joyce doesn't do any of that, he's forced to move back when an opponent comes to him, so unlike Foreman is far easier to push back and put into a more defensive stance. I think Dubois would have a far easier time pushing Joyce back than Foreman.

Joyce also clearly has better stamina than Foreman did. Foreman was at his most dangerous early, going right at him early is usually suicide, while Joyce is more vulnerable early as he's a slow starter and is more effective in the latter rounds when his work rate and sheer relentlessness becomes a big factor.

But having said all that I do think like Foreman, Joyce is one of those guys who looks awful but is actually far more effective than he looks. I don't think he's an easy fight for anyone if he gets out of those early rounds.

Very balanced post however all depends on how Joyce will handle Dubois in the first 5 rounds where DDD has shown he can be devastating.

Not to mention that he also was just under 270 pounds in this fight and I expect him to come in at least 15 pounds lighter against Dubois.

True, wouldn't be a total shock if he did just beat Joyce to the punch and land a bomb and then blast him out with a follow up, he is a big puncher. How the fight plays out in the early rounds will be crucial.

But this is a step up in class for Dubois and when he isn't punching you know for sure Joyce will be on him and unloading and nothing I've seen from Dubois suggests he can fight on the back foot. Right now I have to go with the more proven and experienced Joyce, he's shown he can succeed at a higher level as an amateur and a pro and I just think he has a more rounded game at this point.
