LHW Toney vs Kovalev, Beterbiev, Stevenson

Jirov did go forward, but he pressured him and made him work.

A Stevenson fight would have been fought at a much slower pace.

I’d confidently have picked James had he have been at his best.

I’d have liked to have seen a Gomez fight.

 

James what at his best when he had to work. He's put himself near the top of Compubox lists various times. Fighters who stayed back and didn't give counter opportunities gave him problems.

 

It would have been a slow paced fight.

Toney would have taken his left hand away.

Kovalev would have been more problematic.

I'll check that fight.

What I dislike about Gomez is that he didn't give it 100% at heavyweight since he was good enough to half ass it and still get the Vitali payday.

 

Again, slow paced is not necessarily to Toney's advantage in the way you're assuming. One thing about Stevenson is that he had a ton of heart and always tried to win. That could mean outeorking Toney in the end.

Take Steveson's left away and he was dirt poor.

 

He never beat anybody at heavweight and got KOD by a no name. At crusierweight, he was dominating his challengers, but the level of opposition was not that good. I think with the Jirov, the will, conditioning and toughness would bring him win against Gomez

 

That isn't true. Gomez beat Vyrchys who was either top 10 or had recently been in the top 10, and also beat Defiagbon, Samil Sam, and an old McCall.

 

It's more that they're lower level opposition and not an indicator of how good Toney could have been at LHW.

 

I have never heard from this Russian. Must not have been a big win
