If him and Canelo fight he may lose (no shame) but an aging GGG arguably beat Canelo twice, so even though he is elite he isnt as good as some make out. Kovalev was out doing him, but his now poor punch resistance and conditioning caught up on him. Smith is in his prime, totally underrated on here, would give Canelo nightmares, as he has a longer better jab that Kovolev, better ounch residtance and better engine and has better punch variety.
The way the Olympics are hyped up now, the biggest star will come from the next ones that take place. Unless Fury is still around.
Why do you think the fight was postponed a few times and why Groves has not fought since? It was another PPV loot grab by a fighter entering the ring knowing he should not be in there due to career ending injury - David Haye twice and Darren Barker all over again. I stopped listening to Eh day a long time ago as the unjustified hype of some of his fighters is not worth listening to - Tony Dosh PPV even worse than Callum Smith. Watching with my own eyes, Ryder was badly shafted by Matchroom Cards. He clearly won the fight and badly exposed Smith's limitations. You get Tony Hayers slagging off the achievements of Joe Calzaghe and Tyson Fury yet have a close look at the CV of Smith - he is heading for a huge fall when he faces an elite fighter. Will still be on here eating humble pie if I am wrong.
For starters as a bare minimum Smith needs to rematch Ryder. He has zero credibility with me until he does that:

I do agree with a lot of that. That's why I think Canelo is overated! I actually said I think Smith would of had a good chance against Kovalev, would of been a fight he could win and pick up another World title. I'll say this, if Smith fights at the level he did in the Ryder fight, then he loses. If he can fight to a gameplan, then he could beat Canelo but I can't see there not being some rehydration clause in the contract. If the weight cut is finally starting to have an impact on him, then that really wouldn't help matters. His shots looked pretty weak against Ryder, like the snap was missing on them. Maybe it was just a one off. Regardless he needs to move up soon and actually challenge himself. His greatest asset is actually his power, how many times have we seen when decent fighters finally move up and perform a lot better. John Ryder is a prime example, even Jason Welborn. If you take Groves for example, people said he was done after the Froch fights, he was a big SMW himself, I just think he outgrew the weight and his shots started to lack snap or pop on them also. Lee McGregor is another, seemed to suffer the same issue against Farooq.
He’s been fighting at Super middleweight for 8 years now...at 6”3 and 30 years old, that is absolute madness. I’ve always sung Callum’s praises on here but he should have moved up to 175 right after that Groves win. All the fella’s who are aged 30+ on here will know that you start to fill out around 30. Your shoulders broaden, you get more timber and you lose your young lad body. To deny that natural process by starving your body to make weight is just madness. As pointed out by Kojak, you could see the power had diminished in Groves’s shots as time went on...you can see the same in Smith’s now. He didn’t have the zip in his shots to deter Ryder from moving in on the inside. The more that fight went on, the braver Ryder got with the risks he took and he really put it on Smith. You can’t blame Smith for taking a fight with Canelo for that money. He’ll be sorted...but I really believe he’ll lose his zero in the process and suffer the same fate as Kovalev. Just because you can still boil down to the weight doesn’t mean you can hydrate the same, and feel fit and healthy on fight night. The power in the shots are not quite there and the durability in taking a shot diminishes too.
Most heavyweights fight till their late 30s. So I don't know why people are saying Fury and Joshua will be done. At least one probably both will still be around. Heavyweights will always be the stars. Josh Taylor will be 34, All three will be coming to their end of their careers but should still be here.
