Who really won between Sugar Ray Leonard vs Marvin Hagler

Hagler was old and slow. Leonard is amazing inside the ring.

 

I used to think Leonard. Due respect to Leonard who is an ATG, but I think in retrospect, Hagler was hard done to. Leonard's showmanship led to a victory that was really style over substance.

 

Forgot about that but my hero the great Don Curry has to take his share of the blame for accepting such stupid advice.

Well Leonard did Don Curry a favour then!
Hagler would have brutalised Curry inside 5 or 6 rounds.

That apart, the whole sporting world wanted to see Hagler Vs Leonard while only a few Texans from Houston wanted to see Curry fight the marvellous one.

OH and!
Leonard won the fight, he landed cleaner, he landed combos, he landed power shots and did so more often than Hagler. Many people didn’t like it and Hagler thought an opponent had to do more than just win to take a mans World Title but the rules of scoring a fight said Leonard won and I agree.

 

A draw in Vegas against Canelo is a ud win anywhere else on the planet for the G, you already know that though

 

Always thought Leonard Hearns 2 was more of a robbery than this fight

 

I was always a huge Hagler fan and was very disappointed when he lost to Leonard. However, having watched the fight many times, I always conclude that Leonard won by a point or so. Hagler dug himself a big hole by losing the first three rounds. That's hard to overcome on a 12 round fight.

 

I thought Sugar ray Leonard just came too survive it was a smart game plan though I thought Sugar ray just won. But it’s surprising that he won when Hagler was the champion.

 

I thought Hagler edged it. No one to blame but himself for the loss he out thought himself in rounds 1-4. He was landing the heavy leather and had Leonard on the run most of the fight. Leonard came in with flashy combinations to close out the last 30 seconds of each round but imo that is not enough to dethrone a long reigning champ and respected warrior like Hagler

 

I know who deserved the W, I know who landed the more significant and impactful shots. That was Saul Canelo Alvarez. I know who was exposed and outboxed. That was Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin.

 

See, I just don’t get this.
Two blokes enter the ring and box for 12 rounds, one scores more points than the other and is the rightful winner. What’s being challenger or champion got to do with it?

Don was a friend of mine too when in Ft Worth Texas. Don,Dave Gorman almost everybody believed Leonard when he claimed he was retired due to a detached retina. Akbar Muhammad hired him as Don's advisor he turned out to be anything but. Pressuring Don to wait to challenge Marvin saying "Longer you wait the older he gets". All the while the snake in the grass was pushing for that fight for himself which he eventually got & even robbed Marvin by getting a corrupt decision
Getting involved with Muhammad & Leonard was Don's downfall. Dave Gorman was with him from the peewee stage & Don was the reason Dave got started into managing & training pro's
Leonard know to stay away from Texas since I think he's probably wise not to visit
No way in Hell does he deserve the name Sugar Ray That is Mr Robinson. Saccharin Ray the snake in the grass is what he deserves
