Some boxers have lot of muscle mass while still remaining lean and toned. Given that two boxers have equal skill and speed, the stronger one will likely hit harder due to force, mass and acceleration. also I heard that alot of power in punches is generated from the legs, and having powerful broad shoulders can allow for more shoulder pop when punching. Don't forget being more powerful in clinches, looking more intimdating to opponents etc.

any other benefits of strength training in boxing and combat sports in general

Firstly I think it's important to distinct muscle mass from strength. Physical strength can help everything from chin to punching power. There is no downside to being strong

Wilder has the skinniest legs known to man yet hits just as hard or harder than most

Go watch beterbiev vs gvozdyk, beterbiev’s superior strength in close quarters and the clinche made it super uncomfortable for gvozdyk through out. Gvozdyk was never able to clinche effectively because beterbiev is so much stronger

Theres always the few exceptions. Majority of hard hitters had huge tree trunk legs. E.g. Tyson, George Foreman, A. Joshua

If you go take a look at how Fury knocked out Cunningham, that was pure manhandling by superior size and strength.

There's been lots of fighters that don't appear very strong yet punch ridiculously hard. Tito, Hearns, corrales
