Why isn't RJJ's victory over James Toney more highly rated

Tbf I usually score the fight 7-5 to Toney.

I think his jab and countering were phenomenal plus he was clearly the ring general.

    Of his dignity?

TBH when Roy made that chicken fake and then Toney mocked himm and Roy knocked him on his ass?
That would have been a justified No' Mas. Nobody would have blamed him. Wouldn't of had to sit through the rest

For example, who ever brings up Elmer Ray's victory over prime Charles?

No one thinks that Ray becomes a great HW by beating the best LHW ever.

Whittaker deserved the decision. He did hurt Chavez in that fight and back him up More than I thought he could going into the fight.

In the big picture that fight is diminished a bit because with the Duva's guidance the bout was fought at Welterweight. Chavez never was a player in the 147lb division. His power didnt move up the scales with him. That fancy footwork by Duva had an impact on the fight.
As far as SweetPea vs Chavez would have liked that bout around '89-91 no higher than 140 but 135 would have been epic.

Every one of your posts is like a riddle to me.

I literally have no idea what you’re talking about.

Also worth adding is that the decision was disputed and Charles Ko'd him less than a year later.

    Your point is fine tho.

I don't know why people like fighters they call 'legends' having weight issue / 'lack of discipline' type excuses.
James Toney was just not quite in the same class as Roy Jones Jr.
    There's no shame in that.

And their opponents funnily enough never had any issues with preparation, injuries etc. All their wins are above question, but not their losses.

When it comes to Toney, you can definitely pull apart one of his most lauded performances, the one against Barkley, that way. Iran must have cut like crazy to make 168 and came off a brutal war with Hearns. So...

I think the challenge arises when the manner or extent of a victory/loss is used as measure of the gap in said 'class'. In this case, Toney was completely overrun by Jones and yet other of his peers seemed to do better.

Would a more well-conditioned Toney have won? Not likely. But, the fight might have been a tad more interesting, had he been in shape.

I don't think this is true. Up until the Griffin fight Jones had lost what 2-3 career rounds against Hopkins, a fight where he had injured hand. Jones actually had an injured right hand coming into the Toney fight too. And then we saw what he did to Griffin in the rematch. Reggie Johnson who fought Toney to a stand still also got shut out on the scorecards.

Mate i was miles off on this one!!! The mag was the August 94 KO. Whitaker was #1, Toney was #2 and Jones yet to break the dozen because his demolition of Tate hadn't yet been tallied in the list.

No problems JT. It was over a quarter of a century ago. Who remembers that far back anyway?

All 3 were brilliant, elite fighters. And Roy was in the conversation p4p shortly thereafter anyway. You weren’t miles away at all. The Ring magazine that had Jones number 3 must’ve been in that 6 month window between Roy destroying Tate and then humiliating Toney. Not far off at all.
