By catchers I do not merely mean guys that take a good punch. Larry Holmes took a great punch. Neither do I mean guys who walk into punishment in order to dish out their own. Joe Frazier, Rocky Marciano, Henry Armstrong, Carmen Basilio, and George Chuvalo all did that. They weren't catchers either. By catchers I mean the guys that would just lay on the ropes and in the corners, not even counterpunching-maybe not even trying to block punches, and let his opponent slam away at him for almost the entire fight. In case I still haven't clarified, imagine Paret, Saad Muhammad, and LaMotta. That's the style we're talking about. Who were the best in this area?

Kownacki, he tends to just eat punches and let people tee off, but that could be mistaken for dog **** defense

Oh ya, I guess not everyone knows that's the official term for a catcher.
    fightcity:
A “catcher” is a boxer always willing to test his opponent’s power and absorb several punches in order to land just one of his own hard shots. Such warriors win the admiration of fans for their courage, though this masochistic style is not for the faint of heart.

I know, I love both of the sports as well as football. It is too bad how these catchers will end up someday neurologically, drooling all over themselves just to satisfy a few fans.

Tex got hit by three or four really hard punches during the course of his career... It's amazing that he was able to act and talk normally later on in life. I have seen interviews with him...Seems like a nice guy.
