Holyfield was never found wanting in the strength department whereas Tyson was often man handled in clinches.

Holyfield was just plain tougher and more robust.

Thats not how Holyfield fought in the early part of his career, he would fight fire with fire. In the 1996 fight, he knew fighting fire with fire with a dangerous puncher was suicidal, he tied him up, pushed him back and picked his moments via counter punches on when to launch his offence. The way he fought Riddick Bowe may not have been the wise way to fight Tyson back then.

Very well put and true. Holyfield definitely had the psyche advantage. Watch Evander look at Mike in the stare down of the 2nd fight. Mike was definitely made very perturbed by it. Holy had his number all the way.

Comedy Gold, only on Classic Armchair Pistolero World a fighter gets better or stays to form before jail after sitting inactive close to four years in prison.......as a matter of fact, more fighters should be imprisoned, after all , no training can duplicate the benefits in timing, mental fortitude and stamina then a stint in prison, a sure recipe for success.

That's a hella lotta effort for bait :jaja-no:

Any time anything negative crops up about Tyson your eyes start spinning like the wheels on a slot machine.

I think Sauhund is fed up with the know-it-all approach some posters are taking with Iron Mike. Any reasonable poster would dismiss it. It becomes asinine. You don't see much of it at CHB because it won't gain ground. But here and other lesser sites it becomes rampant.

I agree with him. There's a lot of hate towards Tyson that's thinly veiled. Then the same posters respond with the typical "I don't hate Tyson, I'm a big fan...but....". But negates everything you say before it. It's all a matter of opinion but opinions aren't facts. But this is an open forumso the debate rages on.

I do get where you are coming from per overall context to be fair. He's just as bad the other way however. Rants don't gain much traction.

I'm often leary of the "i love x but" or "i'm a huge fan but" or "no-one is a bigger fan of x but" stuff too. It happens with quite a few fighters.

Eeek! I hope that doesn't include me. I am a fan of Mike's 80s powers.

    :( Sigh.

I guess I come across that way just because I don't want to see as though I have some vendetta against a fighter. And I don't want to rile people up unnecessarily.

I just want people to know that I've come to respect Mike vastly more since coming to this forum, mostly because of knowledgeable members like yourself. I think Mike 86-89 was unbelievable, in fact I have him #9 ATG, ahead of Wlad, Dempsey, Johnson, and even Liston.

It tells you all you need to know when you hear Tyson came out of prison in better condition than before he went in.

These guys pick Holyfield over prime Tyson simply became they dislike him. There's nothing more to it than that.

The fact Tyson lost his prime against Ruddock before spending 4 years in prison where he ballooned up and and down in weight isn't even acknowledged.

This was Tyson entering Prison at a whopping 270lbs

His skills and strength eroded away every year he was in there... "Bu bu Holyfield just had his number "

Nobody said Tyson came out of prison in better shape than when he was sent down.

What I have said is that prison likely saved him from more beatings and that whilst Tyson was in the nick being treated like a King, Holyfield was in wars that shorten your career.

The facts are when they fought Holyfield was older and more war torn than Tyson. The facts are that Holyfield had looked quite poor for a few bouts before their first fight.

The facts are Tyson had two bites of the cherry and was beaten twice.
