Perhaps. But it seemed to me Dempsey had changed the momentum with a vicious body attack. I don't think Sharkey would have gone the distance.
Dempsey was losing the fight before low blow. I'd go that far that Sharkey dominated him. Mentioning Louis fight is silly and you know that. Sharkey was nothing close to his prime at this point. Sharkey faced plenty of styles, plenty of sizes and plenty of levels of athletes. Shavers brings nothing he hasn't seen before.
Let me put it this way. Had the ref DQ'd Dempsey on the spot, what would have been the argument against that?
I dunno, Sharkey had an excellent run, & without Sharkey turning to complain about being hit low & thus leaving himself unprotected, he beats Dempsey! Losing to possibly the greatest HW ever when at the end of his road? This would happen to almost every fighter in history. Shavers always might catch him, but he often lost against elites. An elite counter-puncher/boxer type such as Quarry-or Sharkey-should be favored.
If he was hit low, I don't think he had taking his eyes off Dempsey in control. I think that past prime Dempsey showed a lot of toughness in this fight, but he should have lost it.
