i always been interested in this fighter mostly cause he has a cool name but what made him so great :think
Feasting on over-matched opposition is what made him such a dominant champion. His legacy gets quite overrated, especially considering the fact that he fought in the most competitive era in the division's history and missed out on almost all of the top names while they were busy fighting each other. That said, there's no doubt he was a physical monster at the weight and more than likely would've held his own with most, although I'd at least favour Watanabe over him.
Starting off Khaosai Galaxy isn't his real name, very cool name, but not his legal name. His last name "Galaxy" was a building that was owned by his manager. It is frequent that fighters on that side of the world they take the name of the gym their fighting in. Like "Kratingdaenggym" or "3K Battery" or what have you. Anyway, when you talk about his fighting style he was very aggressive and used his strength to win his fights. He was a very very strong fighter. If you watch his fights you really wouldn't think that he was a 115 pound fighter. He really is a very strong man, and he definitely used that too his advantage. He didn't have nowhere near elite level of boxing skill. One: boxing wasn't the sport he started out in, he was a kickboxer and converted over to boxing. (And with this style I'll get into it later in his early fights you definitely can tell that he was a kickboxer.) And two: He didn't have world class trainers around him over Thailand. It's a bit limited of what you can work with over there, at the time, (I'm sure it's better over there now, mainly because of Khaosai Galaxy) More on his style, as I said he used his physical strength to get inside and really start working. Quick and powerful hooks and uppercuts on the inside. And then his money punch his straight left hand. His left hand (ranked by the Ring Magazine) was in the teens as one of the best single punches in all of boxing history and I would very much agree. If you look at some of his fights that left hand was brutal and very much a 1 punch KO weapon. And keeping up with his style, his footwork early in his career was poor. As mentioned above, he was a former kickboxer and when you look at his footwork he was hopping around and did have that kickboxing style stance. Resume wise, it definitely is poor. He was a champion for the longest time. He had a world title and held it from the mid 80's to the early 90's. Defended it 19 times, but his resume was poor. And it sort of is too bad that he didn't go out of his comfort zone and try and fight the best fighters in the world at the time and try and unify. So, all in all, he had a very basic style...which I don't think favors him in fantasy fights considering if he fought a top name who had a style to nullify his brawling style he could definitely be beat, but then again, that's just what I think and it's just a fantasy fight. As it was, he only lost the one time and dominated his opponents. So, in a way it is good he didn't go out of his comfort zone and fight the best, because if he were to lose, well, he wouldn't be one of the top 112 fighters of all time. As it is, people just roll on over to boxrec, see a glossy record and make up their mind and that is all. All right to wrap this up, he had a very beatable style...the come forward, brawling, sort of one-dimensional style, but he beat pretty much everybody in front of his and defended his belt numerous times and you have to respect that.

i may be wrong if so i am sure you will let me know but was'nt galaxy no.1 contender in 84 and watanabe gave up the WBA belt rather than go to thailand and fight galaxy and watanabe then won the WBC belt and thats when galaxy won the vacant tittle champ . a fight between watanabe and galaxy would of been rather special though
that agreed but was there no way to keep both belts or simply go back and challenge galaxy . fighters have won a belt then given it up and kept their original belt. perhaps it was a watanabe management decision to avoid galaxy that had nothing to do with either fighter
