Canelo isn't a fifth of the fighter Gibbons was. One is a media darling who has every imaginable advantage possible, whilst having every need catered for in one of the weakest eras ever and the other is a top 30 ATG who beat the GOAT twice, along with a bunch of brilliant light heavyweights (certainly better than an old, drained, drunk Kovalev). Gibbons would beat Canelo so damn he'd make him wish he was back getting beaten by GGG.
Canelo is better defensively than anyone Dempsey beat because of his tight high guard and he doesn`t throw many shots now, it would probably be a boring fight unless or until Jack caught him.
I’m sorry but Dempsey wrecks him, especially downstairs. Unless some huge disadvantage was put upon Dempsey regarding weight or whatever, or this was Dempsey post Tunney, then Canelo wouldn’t risk himself being in the same town as Dempsey never mind the same ring.
Canelo is a better body puncher than Jack was but not as powerful, fair point though because Jack would need to go downstairs due to Canelo`s rock solid high guard.
Based on the fact he's the same size, faster and more skilled. Gibbons and Miske aren't HWs by modern standards
This is simply a bias to 1920s boxers. Both boxers were the top P4P boxers of their day and weigh about the same weight. So why not compare them? In my view Alvarez is faster, has a better jab, has a better defense, better right hand and better footwork. You're correct that he has the advantage of modern sports science, supplements etc, which contribute to Alvarez being better than Gibbons
I watched Gibbons v Dempsey on youtube and wasn`t impresseed, however he took a hook-cross combo from Jack that Roy couldn`t have so had a better chin, he went 15 rounds v Jack and Roy simply couldn`t have done that at all.
