What about a guy like Marquez who seems to find it later on?

i think it pays to keep your mind open,i have an interest in the topic, not so much for punching power but for general strength and conditioning. I agree that doing manual labour would help but have seen too much strength displayed to agree on gym work being a waste of time.

Just like Usain Bolt was born to Run the Biggest Punchers have a Gift....Unfortunately a lot of them did not have the Gift of a Great Chin....get one with Both and you have Potentially one out of the Box.!!!!

I'm not disagreeing with you at all on the topic, but as an amateur JMM had an obscene mid-60's KO%, so he kind of had it, lost it, found it again......

Genetics, proper technique and sitting down on your punches.
That said, most big punchers seem to have big legs or a big, muscular butt, I can't think of many big punchers who have Wilders bodytype.

This. Some guys just hit hard.
Had to tell one guy to pull back his punches, to his surprise. He apperantly was already doing so.

But technique matters as well. Take anyone who isn't know for their punch and you can easily find the holes in their technique.

Best way is to train wrist strength. Many new blue collars from The gym have weak wrists, hands overall grip strength etc. When the power connects to a target it needs to transmit thru your fists. With weak hands it Will bend and lose its power on The way out. Its like comparing a Hammer in metal vs a Hammer in Rubber. Even if They weigh The same.

Usually this is true, but some create power through speed & whip like leverage on long limbs.
Hearns looked like Bambi fighting Leonard weighing 145, but he still had great power up to MW & relatively thin legs.

Technique + commitment is important, though some guys have great power before even practicing.
Excellent genetics is necessary to have great power.

It’s true that you can train up your punches to a little harder than it used to be but the real punchers just had it naturally, it doesn’t matter technique, you either have massive punching power or you don’t.

Genetics. Look at Wilder and Julian Jackson, both are slim and have skinny legs. They have huge power.

Lots of slim guys can punch. They just have to punch long. Chico corrales threw great short punches though.

hearns had power even with that lean tall body he had. but with training on his technique, he was able to maximize that power.
