So apparently Frazier wasn't the same by the time he fought Ali for a second time.

How would you predict a fight between Fight of the Century Frazier and Ali from Ali vs Frazier II? Assume Ali can't excessively hold. Does it just devolve into a Thrilla in Manilla-style fight?

Frazier beats him again. I don’t think any Ali (at least 1970s) beats that March 8, 1971 Frazier.

I cannot pick a winner since Frazier was peak in 71 and Ali in 74. I would slightly lean to Frazier though, who has the advantage style-wise.

I agree that Ali peaked in from '63-'67, but I'm in the group that also believes Ali peaked in '74-'75. All depends on your point of view. Ali sort of had two careers, so I think he had two peaks.

Well, not officially. There's two schools of thought on the subject is more of what I mean. On one hand you have the group that favors the 60s Ali-fast hands, fast feet, incredible speed, and untouchable. On the other hand there is a school of thought that Ali was better in the 70s, when he relied less on overall athleticism and speed and more on his toughness, his underrated power, and his innovative mind. Though I have never met any yet, I have heard of people who think that fights like Shavers and Norton II are some of Ali's greatest moments because of the guts he showed in those fights can only be witnessed in a few of his other fights.

Ali in his peak in 1963? Because you need to say that henrry cooper did hurt Clay so then you could say that Marciano could beat Ali right? Lmao

Ali had too many physical advantages in the 60's not to have been at his peak then.
But 1967-19687 was his absolute best.
I believe he had most of the toughness & innovation earlier, but it was not called for since he was further above the competition.
The victories Ali pulled out in the 1970's (not counting what he did not deserve) were very impressive.
But he would not have struggled with Shavers in th e'60's.
And his speed & reflexes would mean that even though he never adapted his style efficiently to deal with Norton's counter-punching, Norton just would not be able to land as much, & Ali could dance 15 rounds.

Likewise I believe peak Ali would beat peak Frazier.
Ali from 1972 *without* all the illegal holding he was allowed was better since he was less rusty.
It is unclear if Frazier from FOTC would wear him down, but given the ref's intervention in the second round then & that Frazier had left his peak, Ali could well have won legally.

Depends on the ref. I think Frazier would have beaten him in their second fight if the ref hadnt let clinch incessantly. It was pretty close as it was.

I agree with Klompton. Although I think Frazier wouldn't have beat Ali that night seeing as Frazier was clearly not in peak shape and his timing was off and his punches weren't as snappy as usual vs. Ali was in peak condition, moving and punching and boxing the best he had in the whole decade at that point, Ali did clinch Joe like 150 times, keeping Joe from his game plan of going to the body. The fact that he clinched Joe so many times is proof that he was struggling with Joe even then. If Ali hadn't clinched half so many times I'm sure that this would have been the firefight that their other fights. Despite that, I still love this fight.

Their's nothing laughable about his post. I don't agree that Frazier beats every version of Ali but their's nothing especially ridiculous about that notion.
