I'm trying to stick to the very best. For instance, Ali was in plenty of great fights, but they were not the norm.

 

Manny Pacquiao, Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera come to mind.

 

Great list, but I'm not so sure about Fullmer. Joe Miceli.Henry Hank?

 

Those two were good. Why not Fullmer?

 

For me these are ones I consider the absolute Mount Rushmore of excitement: Matthew Saad Muhammad, Danny Lopez, Bobby Chacon, Ruben Olivares.

Honorable mentions: Joe Frazier, Frank Fletcher, Arturo Gatti, Aaron Pryor, Carmen Basilio, Cornelius Boza-Edwards, Evander Holyfield, Felix Trinidad.

Just my opinion of course.

 

Can't disagree. I was hesitant to put Frazier, Fletcher, Pryor, and Holyfield, as well as Holmes and some others. I wouldn't say those guys were in back-to-back fights that were absolutely incredible, as opposed to the guys I listed. Nice Mount Rushmore of Excitement although where I am now I would have to have it at Saad, Paret, Basilio, and Fullmer. But I probably haven't watched Lopez and Chacon as much as you have.

 

Olivares? Interesting. Aside from the Kanazawa rematch, I don't think I've ever seen anything which would put him above the likes of Basilio and Holyfield. Care to explain that one, Chris?

 

The Castillo and Arguello fights were the best he was ever in. He was in a lot of great fights, but they weren't all-out sizzling, ALL the TIME.

 

Were they? I didn't think they were that great, but I did enjoy them.

 

I liked them a lot. I would say those were the most memorable moments of Ruben's career.

 

The Castillo fights were classics, he was exciting as hell in general. The Rose fight while not a “classic” he showed his exciting he is. Even past prime fights at featherweight like Lopez, Arguello were great. Great drama in the Hafey re-match, Chacon fights. There’s a reason he sold so well at the Forum in an era where there were tons of other thrilling fighters.

Great left hook, vulnerable, powerful, loved to exchange etc; awesome to watch.

 

Wow man, I guess I'm just not seeing it like that. I thought the two available Castillo fight were good, but not much more. Same with the Arguello fight. Completely with you on the Little Red fight though, that was wicked.

I love Olivares too, I just don't see him like that. For example, I'd say that Tatsuyoshi or Seabrooks were more entertaining at bantamweight.
