He’s saying there’s nothing sensible about this match up, when you made this thread did you really think Tom had a chance?

Tom Sharkey had a punch and he was very tough and had a lot of courage and grit. That could help him in getting the job done.

Boxing writers have long been in awe of the natural savagery and iron will of Sharkey. One boxing historian described Sharkey as an "animal of a man that swarmed all over his opponents." Hall-of-Fame writer Gilbert Odd called him "a rugged fighter who depended more on toughness than skill.

He may have had those going for him but if he fought mike in his prime he would likely get knocked out in the 1st round

I think he was good for his time but the sport had evolved A LOT from toms era to the mid 80s, tom would be too small and his techniques would be too primitive to complete with Tyson and the other guys you mentioned

How many Sharkey fights have you seen?

I find it funny that people don't accept old reports which praise fighters, but they are quick on talking how crude Sharkey was despite using only... old reports.

I’ve only seen a few old clips of sharkey but it really is just common sense, any champion from the very early 1900s would get destroyed by any contender or high end journeymen from mikes era. Also why exactly would we should we accept these old reports if they were viewing very primitive boxing. If those reporters could see how the sport has evolved I think their hearts would stop
