2016 "I offered Gennady Golovkin a fight at 172 but he didn't fancy it because I'm too big and strong for him and I can't make super-middleweight," he said. "I'm sat here at 13 stone 8 oz, so to make the super-middleweight limit I would have to chop my arm off or run a marathon and not eat for months. If I did box again, it would be at 172, at a catchweight. (Sergey) Kovalev could happen but I would rather play my poker. 2017 "I'm 40 years old now and have been retired for three years," Froch said. "It's too long to be out of the ring and then come back at a competitive level. "I'm nearly 14 stone and box at 12 stone. For me to boil myself to 12 stone would be dangerous for a start. Says he's 180lbs in this 2019 interview This content is protected He said this in 2020 but I think he's alluding to what he weighed back when the GGG fight was offered to him “I’m going to struggle to do super middleweight. Ideally, I wanted to do 175. There’s not an ounce of fat on me, and I’m walking around at 14 stone [196 pounds]. So how am I going to get down to 11 stone 12? So that’s why that fight never happened''
Carl is the same height as Ward - 6ft flat. From that photo he's 180-185lbs. He's not thick enough in the lower half to be close to 200lbs
Kov was a far better fighter than Froch in his prime and Froch never fought a 175 power puncher before.
Froch mentioned doing some muscle bulking after he retired so the extra weight wasn't his natural size. He clearly wasn't a big SMW. There was discussion in the Groves/Cox fight from Cox's team about Cox coming in around the same size or heavier than Froch (to combat the idea Cox wasn't a real SMW). But it basically showed that Froch wasn't a big SMW, because Cox fought at MW. Groves was definitely bigger than Cox, but also bulkier than Froch. And Groves was dwarfed by Smith. Froch probably could have made MW if he was a big drainer. The only reason he considered Golovkin small is because Golovin is also not big for his division!
I bet he went round every one in the bar and told them "excuse me do you know i fought in front of 80,000 at Wembley ?"
