I didn't know that. Although I don't think that would make me more sympathetic to Duva necessarily. I mean, I'm sure the nation wasn't mourning when Liston was killed, although I realize that's another level of things.

    Holy cow.

What did Duva ever do but throw a temper tantrum, which is not an uncommon thing in boxing?

I just think it's cowardly to run up to Mayweather after a 12 rounder and try to sock him, even for an old guy it's cowardly.

People lose their cool. Worse things have happened.

Don’t think it merits comparison to Sonny Liston who: spent time in prison, quit on the stool to give up the heavyweight title, did whatever the heck you want to call it in the rematch, was a major drug/booze abuser, apparently beat up people to collect mob debts, etc.

I agree. Liston was just the first guy I thought of.

How 'bout Roger Mayweather? Punched Duva and opened a big cut on the side of his face.

Agree. That was no knockout and he was clearly deprived of that victory

Right. It's not like Duva was a Carlos Monzon level low-life or something.

He was also pretty funny when he wanted to be. Not a full-time raving lunatic.

Best Lou Duva joke I remember: “I went on the 14-day diet and all I lost was two weeks.”

We used to refer to Duva as Popeye.

Benton was the trainer, Duva was a cheerleader who liked to make it all about himself.

Taylor suffered a broken eye socket, broken ribs, badly busted up face, had a lot of blood pumped from his stomach, was ****ing blood for weeks and was in hospital for almost 2 weeks following the fight

Benton was awesome. I wonder if he hindered him at times.
