What a joke. If this happens, the only mitigating factor would be if it was called super cruiserweight.
Leave it to the WBC to call it Heavyweight and change the name of the legendary limetless division to Super Heavyweight instead.
progress implies going forward. that only happens in boxing if we have one federation, so these fat cats can't create more bogus belts to line their pockets with.
Yup, exactly what boxing needs is more divisions. I also think they should replace the top 15 with a series of 15 different sub champions.
Best part is that we do kinda need it. Guys who are 6'1 or so and can't make 200lbs, should not be fighting guys that are 6'6 and 250lbs. But the WBC are doing this for all the wrong reasons.
There are too many divisions. The UFC has a weight limit for competitors. You can't weigh more than 265, I believe. Instead of adding more weight classes to accomodate guys who don't want to train, just put a cap on the limit for all competitors. Doesn't have to be 265. But under whatever the hell Ruiz weighed last time. But I am for leaving it as is.
im all for the super heavyweight division. need less divisions at lighter weights... make more fighters predicate their game on speed or power within each division.
Maybe it would encourage "Big Baby" Miller to roll in at 265 instead of loading up on PEDs and coming in at 315. And putting a cap on competitors' weights doesn't seem to have hurt the UFC.
the only thingn that needs to change is the cruiser limit back to 190. By today's standards Wilder could have been a cruiserweight at 6'7
