That is Archie`s only chance. Try to lure Jones to sleep and land something big. I don't think Roy was that dumb though.

Rt. Moore was p.o.ed at his manager that he had to drop 25 lbs from the Valdes hvyweight eliminator fight to defend his Lthvy Title against Bobo Olsen, then go back up in weight to fight The Rock 3 months later.

Archie was masterful at setting traps. Luring his opponent in. He played mind games/possum and he had that equalizer so dont count him out. Willie Pastrano was quick and mobile but he learned not to talk to Archie during a bout.

There’s one major thing everyone in this thread has completely overlooked. Jones was a vicious puncher, too. He unquestionably had the ability to KO Moore, who always had a dentable chin himself.

Moore's chin was very strong. Hiw many times was he stopped in his prime?

Moore would be pressuring Jones all night, cutting the ring off, trying to get inside and set the trap to land that huge ko shot.

But trying to get inside Jones is very difficult and means you're gonna get tagged yourself.

Even at his very best Moore was out jabbed all night before finding the Hail Mary against Harold Johnson.

I think Moore does stop him, but there's every chance he gets stopped himself.

Certainly more than Jones was in his prime. Moore was knocked out at every weight he fought at, at essentially every stage of his career. In other fights he was knocked down. In others he came off the canvas to win, which showed great heart, not a great chin.

No doubt he faced greater opposition than Roy did, and far more often, but all that doesn’t pertain to my point. Moore could be hurt by good punchers, which was proven many times all throughout his career. Roy was an excellent puncher.

Most in the thread seem to be in agreement that Roy holds the stylistic edge, too. They’re just willing to risk the odds because they think that when Archie eventually catches him, he’ll squash him. As if Roy is some pesky gnat. Nobody has even considered the damage that Roy could be dishing out to Archie while he’s winning all these early rounds. Or that Archie could be taken out himself before this master plan bears fruit.

This isn’t Sandy Saddler against Willie Pep.
