    The tie score is interesting.

LW is probably the most likely candidate for it with 3 choices of GOAT in Gans, Leonard and Duran.

MW has Robinson, Hagler and Monzon do that might also produce some very close results.

    And Greb, too.

As I recall (and again, I still haven't even sorted Welter yet) - the Big 4 at Middle - the ordering was all over the place, in basically every combination.

I guess that's the root of my question - are people double counting his wins as welterweight champ as lightweight wins too?

I don't know, truth be told. When he's weighing around 135 some might well double count them.

I don't personally. I look at who he beat as a LW, what he achieved as a LW and I caveat it with him still being able to make LW whilst a WW champ.

A bit like with Charles and Tunney.

Interesting lightweight list. Definitely got all the right names IMO, but I'm not fan of the order. I can't see Ortiz below 6, and McFarland as low as 9 doesn't sit right either. Plus, Whitaker gets rated wayyyyy too high IMO. And it's also just dawned on my that I've been pronouncing Canzoneri as Canzenori my entire life. :ohno

And FYI @Rumsfeld, the record you listed for McFarland, Welsh, Gans and Leonard are excluding newspaper decisions.
Not really. He was fouling, a lot. In both fights. If he wasn't, he would've won the decision, but if he wasn't then it's likely Ambers' performance woulda been better. Low-blows can take something out of your legs lol

I just can't see anyone watching the rematch and coming away thinking Ambers is the superior fighter.

But even beyond my own personal opinion, it's secure in history that this result is controversial.

That doesn't mean wrong, it means there's controversy about it, which there is.

Also, Rummy mentioned the records in the video, he said they're what's listed on boxrec.

I attempted addressing that when I explained I was just going with what BoxRec currently had.

Yeah, sorry about that. I wasn't clear. The newspaper decision are on Boxrec, they just don't include them when listing their records at the top. For example, Benny Leonard actually has a record of: 185-22-9 rather than 89-6-1. So 120 of those fights aren't mentioned for some reason. I'm not being picky or anything, I just thought it might be useful going forward.

If you want to see all of the numbers, then search for them on Boxrec, and see the record listed next to their name.

    Gotchya!
And BTW don't necessarily go by my pronunciations. I've been striving to try and get these correct, but I'm sure I've still inadvertently butchered a few.

I remember sitting in my living room a couple years ago and I was watching some of your older videos and I heard you pronounce Gennady Golovkin as Jenaidy Goluvkin. I'll probably still say Canzoneri as Canzenori from time to time. I still mispronounce Loughran even though I know better.

That was my first video. And I had heard his name pronounced correctly at least several dozen times before that.

Boxrec did used to list them.

But the problem is, newspaper decisions are still dynamic and get updated whenever one of the editors finds more articles.

For example Britton was listed as beating Walker for years, and then it changed to a draw.

Greb and Flowers in the first fight is another one that comes to mind. That changed from a draw to a Greb win.

The only real way yo trust newspaper decisions is to research them yourself on a fight by fight basis and even that isn't clear.

Gibbons vs McFarland has wildly differing articles which could be describing two different fights.

I used to just add letters to names to make them roll off the tongue easier.

I’m about to just start campaigning for Lou Ambers all over the Internet until he’s become a permanent fixture in peoples minds. Somebody has to. People think he’s still a second tier guy because..... they’re not used to seeing his name among the first tier. That’s the only rationale I can think of. So, I’ll have to remedy that.

Over the last couple of days we've been in agreement more often than not.

Quick, let's debate 70s Ali again.
