This is a gladiator sport. The only one left, hence why we like it.

If you want to quit like a biatch go play tennis or something. This is a hurt game.

Boxing is set up so that the fighter shouldn't have to quit. The ref, and your corner have a job to stop a fight before it gets to the point where a fighter wants to quit. So when we see a fighter quit we automatically think less of them.

Exactly. If your health is in danger either a referee, a doctor, or a corner man will stop the fight. Quitting is reprehensible in a fighter. It shows a lack of heart. Turtle up and run if you have to. Fight negative and clinch a lot. That's a little more dignified. You're paid to conquer or be conquered. I've got no respect for someone who can dish it out but who can't take it.

Because keyboard warriors think a fighter should risk their life for entertainment purposes. Then they label the fighter a bum or describe them as having no heart - while the keyboard warrior smashes a chocolate bar.
In all seriousness, I can understand why some quit jobs are frustrating for fans. Like when a fighter quits just because they're being outclassed, but when a fighter is taking a tremendous beating, I don't think there's any shame in that fighter protecting themselves and living to fight another day.

Why should it only be the ref or the corner who withdraw a fighter and not the fighter themselves.

Are refs or those in fighters corner medical experts, NO, they may be experienced in their role however it is the fighter themselves who is experiencing the pain, trauma or whatever.

Would folk have trusted Tysons corner at the Douglas fight to make a sensible decision re stopping the fight if it was necessary, as they were not even competent enough to give required advice between rounds or even have a endswell to deal with Tysons eye swelling.

What some folk seem to be suggesting is that unless your opponent parts you from your consciousness or the corner or ref stop the fight, you can't say " No Mas". ?

Regular quitters are not going to get many bouts, so there is incentive to try and fight on.

I admire the warriors who will keep fighting until they still have breath in their bodies despite taking a beating, however i would rather a warrior getting the 'faecal matter' knocked out of him, think nope todays not my day and withdraw his labour, the history of our sport is littered with too many boxers who experienced Joe Fraziers quote:

"Boxing is the only sport you can get your brain shook, your money took and your name in the undertaker book"

Willie Pastranos well known words sorta seems appropriate even just for the comedic value, who when in the fight he lost to Torres was asked by the ringside doctor if he knew where he was, Pastrano replied "You're damn right I know where I am I'm in Madison Square Garden getting the **** kicked out of me".

That’s why nobody will ever remember you, you’re a quitter, a loser that blames everyone else for your own shitty life.

If we take sparring into consideration, my guess is nearly every fighter has quit at some point.

do you think it warms gatti's corpse that people "remember him"?
you're talking like a teenager. age and experience should change that point of view.

Cotto didn't quit, his corner finally threw in the towel.
That is besides the fact that he had been beaten with bricks for 10 rounds.
