Whats your pick on that? We all know how great Lennox was in his prime. Prime for prime he was definately one of the greatest HWs that ever lived...but so was Big George. When it comes to technique and skills Lewis is in front. But when it comes to pure strenght in both fists the point goes to Foreman. Lewis´ left hand was barely a KO weapon, only his right. Foreman is bigger then Holyfield and Tyson, also much bigger as Tua. Could Lewis deal with a guy like Foreman for 12 rounds? Could Lewis KO Foreman? Maybe, he was KOed by Ali and KDed by Lyle, Lewis could definately KD him. But Foreman has KO power in both fists like Tyson, but is bigger with more reach and more unorthodox punching techniques. He could KO Lewis with a left and right, so with both hands. Your pick.
Foreman was 6 foot 3 inches tall and weighed 220 in his prime. Lewis was 6 foot 5 inches and 245lbs in his prime. While George is freakishly strong, Lewis was bigger and could tie him up unlike Ali, Frazier etc. Lennox would stay behind his jab and fight safety first. A properly trained and in shape Lennox Lewis gives any HW trouble. Lewis by UD in one of the most boring fights of his career.
Anyone who thinks Lewis is outboxing him isn't thinking right. Lewis is far too hittable. The only guys Lewis can outbox without getting cracked are extremely short fighters like Tua, for example. Lewis was hurt by a left hook vs Holyfield in their first fight. He was hurt by Briggs early on. Even Marovic landed a few clean shots although he did not hurt him. Lewis is very hittable, and anyone who is 6'2 and above will be able to land cleanly on him. Foreman hits far harder than Holyfield or Briggs. Does anyone really believe that Lewis can simply jab Foreman and keep him away? Please. Foreman will crack him and early. Can Lewis survive? Maybe but unlikely. Foreman cut the ring better than any of Lewis's opponents and was a far better finisher. Lewis could slug it out with him but Foreman has the better chin. Lewis loses a slugging match. If Lewis chooses to box him, Foreman's long arms will catch him. Lewis isn't Ali. He cannot take the body shots that Ali could, nor the head shots. Lewis was a great heavyweight but extremely hittable and anyone who thinks he can survive six rounds vs a rampaging Foreman without getting cracked isn't thinking.
Foreman throws some ridiculously heavy shots, but Lewis is far too good and cautious to give him a chance to land flush. In the fourth George knocks down Lewis with a glancing, yet shockingly powerful overhand right, and Lewis holds, holds, holds for the rest of the round (and quite a bit of the fifth). In the sixth Lewis has his jab together again and even rocks Foreman with an uppercut at the bell ending the round. By the eight round Foreman is looking really bad, chasing LL around. In the ninth a breathless Foreman gets caught with a huge right hand, stumbles, eats an uppercut, and is down for the count. I hated writing the above, because Foreman is my second favorite fighter, period. This might sound strange, but I give 92 Foreman a massively better chance, but only against the pre-Steward Lewis (who I believe George would knock out cold, whether prime or comeback).
1973 Foreman was a wild slugger who did not even think about pacing himself. Lewis would keep it long behind the jab and hits more than hard enough to stop Foreman overwhelming him. Funny a poster above mentions Holyfield cracking him with the left hook. Holyfield, in his Ring TV 'The Best I Ever Faced' interview, said that Lewis had a great chin. Some people hang on to the fact that Lewis was stopped twice in 1 punch KOs but as Holyfield rightly points out, he had a different mindset for those fights. Against Foreman, he'd be 100% focused and I do not see Foreman stopping a focused Lewis. I don't see anyone stopping a focused Lewis, for that matter. I think it goes 12 and a comfortable decision for Lewis. I don't see it any other way, I really don't.
Foreman was. 6'3 1/2 and he was 225 in his peak being under his natural weight, Lewis was ponderous and overweight at 245, he looked great at 227 fast and explosive like hell against ruddock. Until 235 pounds he looked in his perfect weight. Foreman would ko lewis
I see Ali, Louis, and Frazier stopping him. Holmes would have outpointed him, staggering him with the overhand right. But that's just my opinion. Marciano might have been quite interesting against Lewis.
Lewis CAN outbox him. Lewis was indeed hittable, but Foreman is very slow to land anything that would surprise Lewis. Lewis wins it on points. If Young could beat Foreman, Lewis has no trouble whatsoever. And Foreman only had an incredible chin in his 40s, not in his 20s.
Ali was a powder puff puncher, so he ain't stopping Lewis in a million years. Stop being delusional. Lewis KOs Louis in 5 rounds tops. Frazier also does not stand a chance. Holmes might outpoint him, but he also might get outpointed.
