Now before you all go crazy coz this is the most overdone hypothetical ever. Lemme just say that bumped threads never get the same traction as new ones and ive noticed that most people here have taken a more modernist take. New opinion kn something which everyone has thought about could be pretty interesting. The rules are a ref from mike's era and the 15 round distance from ali's. I think Ali gets in his Tyson's head and takes out him late What do you guys think
Tyson took harer punches from Ruddock than Ali could throw, Ali couldn`t have hurt Mike and Mike had the most skill ofense in heavyweight history, for me Tyson was the better fighter and would have won.
You are right my friend, with all due respect, this thread may cause a lot of disagreements among us posters, but thanks but no thanks.
Tyson would win, joe Frazier would always give Ali problems and mike Tyson was just a faster and stronger version of him, he also had more of a right hand than Frazier so I’d pick Tyson by ko
I would answer this except that the Tyson fan club would have me assassinated. Of course, that right there is my answer, although vague.
Very good response, this one has been done countless times, no disrespect to the poster who started this thread, but there are a lot of young Tyson fans out there who were not old enough to appreciate the other great heavyweights of the past, it is just as well. It is like trying to change the result each time, there is a psychological term that I would rather not use, Insanity.
Again those Tysonites pull Ruddock who was LHW bum,one handed, glas jaw and stopped by every puncher he faced:Morrison,Lewis,Tyson,Jaco...even ancient Weaver knocked him down! They forgott that Tillis almost beat their hero and Douglas did that even better and they were just poor man Ali who was faster, stronger, better chin,stamina,heart,footspeed.... Patterson was faster than Tyson and couldn't touch Ali and Ali faced harder punchers than Tyson:Shavers,Liston and Foreman! No one could beat him! Someone mentioned Frazier but you forgott that Frazier is non stop punching machine with iron chin, constant movement and crazy stamina for 15 rounds while Tyson stamina....is poor! Tyson two times went 12 and was gassed against bums and Douglas wore him down! Tyson couldn't take Ali early because Ali faced faster and stronger guys than him and he can't wore Ali down! Ali would make Tyson stupid for first 5 rounds where Tyson would try to do something which even Foreman/Liston and Shavers couldn't and would failed! After 5 rounds well you who mentioned Frazier gotta know that Frazier is machine after 5 rounds and could knock you in 15th round while Tyson....well couldn't and after 5 rounds he would be gassed! I predict Ali would wear Tyson worse than Douglas and Holyfield did because he was 5 times better fighter than them and Tyson couldn't knock Ali early because Ali survived bigger monsters! It would be much easier fight for Prime Ali than Frazier fight or Foreman where he faced bigger monsters which one is better than Tyson early and one is better than Tyson late! Ali would KOed Tyson in round 10...he would just, dance, stick n move and frustrate Tyson worse than Douglas did and late due to Ali chin,stamina,speed....Tyson would be knocked cold! You who pull that bum Ruddock gotta mentioned that Tyson didn't survive iron chin fast punchers lime Douglas,Lewis and Holyfield and Ali is better than them! Tyson couldn't knock Ali early due to Ali chin and couldn't knock him late! It would be easy night for Ali like Patterson/Bonavena! My pick again is Ali at round 10 by KO
I'll take Ali by TKO with the specifics in the OP. I tend to think that his mind games, pre-fight, would really get to Mike. Can you imagine? Just imagine some of the stuff Ali would do/say. When Tyson gets likened to a Pitbull or a Bulldog, Ali would probably get a Chiwawa or a Sausage Dog and name it Tyson. Or better yet, teach it to roll over when he says Tyson. Maybe make eat of a pink dog bowl which said '*****', I don't know. And of course he'd do the normal stuff you'd expect like take the **** out of his speech impediment, emasculate him, call him stupid and ugly, etc; etc. Sure Tyson would probably try and comeback but he'd be so ignored that it'd probably annoy him even more. In the ring he'd probably be even worse, giggling during the staredown, slapping Mike on the cheek, blowing him kisses. I think it'd be hilarious. Obviously he'd **** Mike off. Big time. But in the ring? I think it wouldn't actually affect the outcome. Ali beats him with or without the pre-fight antics, he's just an awful style match up. Ali from the mid-late 60s had speed of hand and foot in spades, a granite chin, freakish accuracy, out-of-this-world ring IQ and looked insanely strong by the time of the Foley and Terrell fights. Tyson is honestly one of the best I've ever seen; he was the full package. A small, elusive ball of speed, power, technique and athleticsm. We've all seen the videos that deliver detailed breakdowns his drills, combinations, techniques etc. I always kinda thought Tyson was too predictable for Ali (and I don't why people think Tyson wasn't predictable, the guy literally had combinations and finishing sequences drilled into him), and that Ali would hand-craft some genius plan to win, but I've since realised that whilst this is probably true, I don't think it's even necessary. I never liked the Ali-Frazier comparison. I always thought Patterson and Mike was a better link. Tyson and Patterson both fought with the Cus Damato peek-a-boo style, and Patterson's leaping left, explosive head-movement and shifting feet were much more reminiscent of Iron Mike than Frazier's non-stop aggression and erratic Bob and Weave. Patterson sat back a bit more, and wasn't as tough, strong or big, but he was much more akin to Tyson than Smokin' Joe. Ali dealt with him easily and beat him up for even longer than he had to, carrying him for at least 5 rounds. Obviously Tyson fought tons of Ali imitators. Mike tended to beat the **** outta his comp, but the best of the 'lost era' who he fought, beat him up. And Douglas Was the best. He fed Tyson uppercuts, jabbed his head off, kept moving and used his constant punching and moving to wear Tyson down. This wasn't Ali's style, but the basic premise is almost precisely what Ali did to beat Foreman. I think the same principle of counter punching, moving off, putting together combinations and popping jabs to the body from someone so quick, sharp, tough and well conditioned would pay dividends. I can see Tyson landing flush on Ali's jaw and sending Muhammad down like a sack of ****, but I can't for the life of me see anybody finishing Ali off. And Tyson just ain't winning on points. Ali TKO12-15.
I can understand your opinion and share many of its views. I can’t wrap my head around a counterpoint which is this: Feb 10, 1962 Ali dropped by a left hook. V Sonny Banks. Jun 18, 1963 Ali dropped by a left hook. V Henry Cooper. The fight where Dundee had to cut Ali’s glove to get him more recovery time. Mar 8, 1971 Ali dropped by a left hook. V Joe Frazier. I could go on to list how Norton, Shavers and Spinks hit Ali with, you guessed it, left hooks or point out that Mike Tyson’s left hook was simply a hate crime compared to say Henry Coopers who had Ali by his own admission, out on his feet. Not sure Ali could last through multiple Tyson left hooks. I’m not saying Tyson wins however styles make fights and Ali has shown himself through his entire career to be vulnerable to the left hook. Thoughts?
Tyson was Foreman, Shavers or Liston level as a puncher. If they couldn't stop him, along with anyone else you mentioned, then I don't see why Tyson should be favoured to. Sure, he'll land the left hook, but it took Ali to be green for Cooper and Banks for it to knock him down. Prime Ali didn't have that issue with Cooper. And it was only an Ali who had been wore down by FOTC Frazier for 15 hard rounds. I don't see Tyson, or anyone, KOing Ali.
This is very close and I think that both styles are terrible for each other. With that in mind, I have to pick more durable and more proven Ali. Ali by TKO around 10th round.
They always use the 1963 Henry Cooper fight, saying Ali had a weak chin, but as champion from 1964-1967 no one decked him, not even Cooper in 1966, Tyson, D Amato and Rooney were God like, but did not last as long as Ali. Also Ali did not do a bad thing like violating a female like he did. He just did not believe in a garbage war, but did not spend time in jail, he won his appeal. If he was alive he would not be doing ridiculous things like wrestling a shark, Ha Ha, Lol.
