It involves what I think of a overly done thread involving Mike Tyson vs prime Muhammad Ali, 1964-1967. People get hung up by Ali getting decked by Henry Cooper in 1963, but no one talks about what Ali did to Henry in 1966, no knockdown, but 14 stitches to Henry, Tyson went 15 with Tony Tucker, It seems like Tyson was the second coming of Christ. I just rather keep my opinion to myself, a lot of young posters do not understand. This thread is as overdone as a steak that is burning to a crisp in the oven, it seems like someone needs a touch of Downey fabric softener on the agitating rinse cycle, waiting to see posters fight over such a trivial subject. Ali was great but he was a human being too with great skills but like anyone else, he had his weaknesses, he did not float on water. Nor did he need an old man in his corner to hold his hand like a 5 year old. Ali rarely listened to his corner.
You are correct my bad. I don't feel as though Hearns ever fought any really great fighters before Leonard and Benitez other than Cuevas who was in decline imo.
William, how was Cuevas in decline before Hearns? His fall came more swiftly than Roy Jones’s and it happened directly AFTER Hearns butchered him. On the money.
Tyson landed heavy shots in the second Holyfield fight and still Holy kept coming and landing shots of his own. Evander not only punked Mike out during the stare down, he was actually bullying him around the ring again. Mike never had a chance in either fight, the first one really messed him up (as I mentioned, just watch the stare down in the 2nd fight. That wasn't at all what Mike usually looked like going into a fight. His confidence was at a low).
I miss Il Duce's threads where he would do reviews of obscure fringe contenders like Donnie Meloncon, Sea Robinson and Young Sekona. It was always new, fresh and informative for a deep 70's boxing history junkie like myself . (Not so much his constant Ali conspiracy theories though) How's that for an unpopular opinion?
I think I agree with this. Jones chin was soft and it just got cracked and mentally it crushed him and that’s why he was done after the fight but before and during the fight? Probably not.
I'm actually with you on this. One could see how there was a bit of gloss on things, but I actually liked reading his posts. BTW, I thought I was the only one who liked Ruffhouse Fischer.
When asked to comply my top ten, never, ever, ever, think to put Matweather, he is a bad dream too me. Joe Fraizer was a fantastic fighter, would rather wacth 1 of his fights than 5 of Ali,s fights.
Yeah, I've been saying this. Tarver was the best guy Jones fought since Toney, if you believe Toney showed up. And Lou Del Valle already dropped Jones with the same punch that Tarver delivered.
