not as extensive or accomplished as yours (with the exception of life experience. i'm 52), but your point has nothing at all to do with the point i made.
my point is : don't you think gatti would have traded in all the money, accolades and achievements for the chance to live a normal life in retirement?
boxing is terrific for building character, not to mention it's great cardio for your overall health, but i can't think of anything worse than having something completely avoidable rob someone of the second half of their life.

The attitude that a boxer needs before entering the ring preclude bad decision making. Their corner should be accountable for pulling their fighter.

    Excatly.

A fighter should fight as long as he is in the ring. One punch is all it takes.

Its the corner and the ref that should be responsible for the boxers health.

2 guys that never knew how to quit: Judah in the cotto fight getting the crap pummeled out of him perhaps if he had kids after they would have been born bruised. I was essentially scared for his health in that fight. Also Margarito against pac man, his face was grotesquely disfigured but there was no quit in him. Beyond the point of sustaining serious injury.

Man I really don't understand the no quit mentality.

The way I look at it, probably over half of boxing matches end in someone quitting.

Quitting doesn't just mean saying "no mas" to me, theres loads of different ways to quit.
You can fight negatively just to hear the final bell, you can not put the work in in camp, you can lie on your back from a punch that you probably could've got up from, you can give up your offence, back into the ropes shell up and take your toes off the floor so the ref steps in, you can take the knee to the count etc etc.

A win is a win and a loss is a loss, and more time boxers subconsciously or conciously agree to lose, what matters to me is how you rebound from that.

No sense in taking punishment in a fight you can't win, if the corner and ref aren't doing their job, and you can't hate a guy just because he's a bad actor and gave up in a way that everyone can see.

Then the sport is not for you, it’s nothing wrong with that, boxing/fighting is hard, but it’s important to realize that before you’re on the big stage and taking the spot/opportunity from someone that’s willing to die in the ring. Of course I don’t want to see anyone die in the ring but that’s the mentality you got to have to be truly successful.

I (and a lot of other fighters) can’t stand fighters like Victor Ortiz that quits as soon as it gets hard. It’s so many talented fighters that never get the chance to show what they got and it’s disrespectful to those fighters every time fighters like Ortiz quits. You guys don’t realize how frustrating it is.

How many times have we seen a fighter getting beat up the whole fight and turn it around in the end and win? That what makes a fighter great. Chavez vs Taylor for an example.

You're not wrong, but on the flipside of that, how many times have we seen fights where the ref and corner haven't stepped in when they should've, and we have people end up seriously hurt/retired/brain damaged, or worse, dead.

I dunno man, I love a good war, but I don't think boxers should be judged so quickly when only they really know whats going on inside them.

If you think you can war, war.
If you know you're done, you're done.

If you've got it in your head your gonna lose anyway, so don't take more damage than you have to. If the fact you quit breaks you, maybe you aren't meant for the sport anymore, and that's fine in it's own way too.

Couldn't tie his laces. Poor fella was just a bumbling simpleton. Jerry is the poster boy for brave corners who should be in jail.

Some right tosh on this thread. I am passionate about this. I've been a Boxer, an amateur but I've trained with pro's.
We have no idea when to stop. The ABA and the BBBofC should withdraw licences from seconds and even Ref's when a kid gets badly done. Those guys in the corner are supposed to TAKE CARE OF BOXERS !
Any lad lad that spits his gumshield and walks away, in my book, was let down elsewhere. I'd be the first one to stick my arm round him and say, "Hard lines pal".

No disgrace if a boxer is being beaten pillar to post, or feels something is wrong. Better than being possibly injured for life.

It is the egregious quits that knaw at people, such as Rigo-Loma injured hand excuse, or Duran Leonard II.

I think most are legit and probably wise.
