Which boxer in history had the best highlight reel?

Gaspar Ortega has a thirty minute highlight vs Benny Paret. And another with Charley Scott.

 

If you were just watching highlights one would think Tyson and Roy Jones were the Goats although I do love Marciano was a savage by Reznick as far as highlight vids go

 

Either Joe Louis or George Foreman.

I try to stay away from highlights. Extremely misleading. To understand anything but the whole is to understand nothing.

 

Sounds good, but does that mean we can never understand Sugar Ray Robinson since we don’t have his whole career, minute by minute and round by round, to study?

(And a whole bunch of others.)

 

Come on, you know what I mean. If all one watches is a "Best Of" collection of KO punches then what can we really know about that fighter?

 

This is especially credible when you consider a more artistic, collected, calculating fighter like Sanchez. The highlight reels do nothing to showcase his amazing fight-dynamics, his use of footwork and punch angles and how he'd use such techniques through the course of a fight to win. There's no way of knowing how he got to victory, one has to watch his skills on display throughout a whole fight. He wasn't like Deontay, where you can pretty much guess how he got to the knockout.

An advanced, artistic fighter (Shavers I-era Holmes was another example) requires watching the work in progress. Kind of like showing your work in algebra.

 

Well anyone, really. I think that goes for any style.

 

Highlight films are fun to watch, but should never
be taken as the undisputed truth on a fighters
abilities as I believe some on this and other
sites have done.
But their are a many of them that can
get the blood flowing.
Theirs a Hagler one out there that has "Voodoo Chile'
playing in the background that I love.(Maybe because that's
one of my favorite songs)
The song fits Hagler and his abilities to a tee.

I think it's seriously misleading when it comes to guys like Carlos Monzon. He's often labelled boring (which is fair enough) but it's because he was always in control, and dictated both range and pace over long stretches. Highlights don't capture that, and that's just what made him so great IMO.
