I remember watching some 80s fights and it was being said that Williams had the longest reach of all time up to that point, which was 85 in.. When did it get surpassed? Even Bowe and Lewis, and even Jorge Luis Gonzalez had shorter reach than Williams. My research would indicate that Henry Akinwande broke the record, but I didn't look into everybody.

The longest reach I can think of off the top of my head would be Ewart Potgieter, who had a 94 inch reach, but even he doesn’t have the longest reach of all time. I’d I have to look at some of my old almanac’s, but I remember seeing a guy with a reach over 100 inches.

I would be surprised if any fighter had a wingspan of even 100 inches.
Generally people have height equal to wingspan-Leonardo's "Golden Mean". I am almost exactly 6' X 6'.
Boxers often have an "ape factor", not so much the swarmer types.
Like in the NBA, the *average* man is 6' 7" with a 7' WS, meaning a + 5 ape factor.
Even in the NBA or pro boxing ~ 8" is unusual.

The very biggest differential I have seen is https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Anya+Basketball who was listed at +13, but even assuming the lower # +12 is correct, that beats the very few guys ever listed at + 11".
Now to reach those lofty lengths, it helps to have not only very long arms & hands, but a broad chest.
Not muscles, but natural bone structure, width of clavicles relative to height.

This man is especially impresive since he was NOT at all wide for his size. He had a legitimate 8' 6" wingspan, 102".
Now he had an exhibition boxing match with William "The Refrigerator" Perry, ex 1980's NFL sensation, So if you like call him a boxer, lol!
    https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=manute+bol+wingspan

But man, to find anyone at 100" wingspan he would need to be extremely tall AND have very long arms/maybe a wide chest too relativ even to his height.
Please show evidence for anyone who is claimed to have "even" an 8', that is 96", wingspan.
100" is likely to be exaggerated or misremembered.

It's funny but I can recall some sports guy saying, just before Williams faced Tyson, that his reach would prove a massive hurdle against the champion.
Stayed to late to watch it, expecting a close, good fight..

What a disappointment that must have been! I still think Tyson would have won, but I thought Williams really was okay when he got up.

I thought Mike White had a shot, being 6'10" but his reach was 85".
