I don’t think you can pin the blame on solely the promoters. It’s the alphabets and all their stupid belts, rules and whatever else they make up along the way. Dillian DID deserve his title shot, whether that was against Fury now or Wilder over the past couple of years. Regardless of his ability he was number 1 and he deserves it for that alone. This is why the UFC have so much success. It’s the best vs the best, there’s no nonsense in between. If #2 beats #1 his next fight is a title fight, it’s as simple as that. Povetkin should now be mandated to face Fury in the next 90/120 days, Fury should not be elevated to a “franchise champion” to avoid a mandatory - as the WBC has implied that they would do.
The fact that povetkin won means he’s earned himself nothing but another fight with dillian whyte. And Dillon whyte is still one fight away from earning a shot at the wbc means dillian whyte has lost nothing and povetkin has only gained money/ gained nothing from a sporting perspective. So essentially what was the point in the fight last night nothings changed. Glad I never paid for it
If I was Povetkin, I’d insist on a rematch clause should he lose the rematch that’s mandatory for him based on Whyte’s rematch cause... simple.
A rematch is absolutely the right thing. Povetkin didnt deserve to be in a final eliminator. How can pov come off a draw into an eliminator that's just bollocks. Whyte has been number 1 for ages and deserves the shot before Povetkin. So yes rematch is the right thing to do, luckily Eddie looks after his fighters and has got all this sorted.
This is not Hearn, Hearn is many things but it’s extremely unfair to land another WBC incompetency at his doorstep. All the quotes regarding it are directly from the WBC and Sulamain. They’re a joke organisation as constantly proven by the heavyweight mandatory situation, then we’ve had the Canelo and now Povetkin situation within the week.
I agree that the WBC are a joke mate, Sulamain couldnt run a bath let alone the WBC. But Hearn said the winner fights Fury next, when he know if Povetkin won he had to fight Whyte again.
Why should people be surprised at this? It all stinks and we know it. I mean how more emphatic can a win be? Whyte was completely sparked, Povetkin should get the shot, but Hearn will drag this out. The rematch will be hyped and packaged as redemption or some **** sound bite like that in an attempt to get the mug punters to pay this time even more than 20 quid. It’s all a load of over hyped bollocks.
Eddie Hearn: "The first thing Whyte said to me after getting knocked out was make the rematch" Reality: "The first thing Whyte said to me after getting knocked out was where the **** am I!?"
But Hearn has no say, if he did then Whyte would have got his title shot ages ago. This content is protected
Povetkin signed the deal with the rematch clause in place so he knew what to expect. Doesn’t feel right but clearly a smart move from Hearn
Rematch clause to squeeze one last PPV out of Whyte. The casuals will lap it up after that Hollywood KO.
Sorry mate, but Hearns been saying all week in a sales pitch that "the winner goes on to face" Tyson Fury" Very sneaky but he didn't expect to get exposed as he thought Whyte was a shoe in to win
