A rematch clause on an eliminator is actually a nonsense. The loser is supposed to be eliminated, that's the whole point. But, of course, they also have these silly belts, these minor titles (silver ? diamond ?) and I guess they could justify a rematch for the title. It's ridiculous.
As far as we all know/heard it was all or nothing in the first fight? What will happen when Povetkin shatter him again ? Another rematch and all or nothing again? Nice joke. This ain`t a title fight, Whyte is not some dominant force, he doesn`t deserve rematch. Some people are just a joke. How is Whyte deserving rematch, in a even fight, until he get stretched, yet Parker, who was pretty much robbed against Whyte didn`t get his rematch? Explain me this. Boxing is just plain and simple corrupt !!!
The so call "title" is to challenge the champion of the WBC, or b.c. like that. Again Parker deserved rematch, because he was robbed. And Hunter - Povetkin was pretty even match. Povetkin should have won if the knockdown was scored. Boxing is scored round by round. So doing so much in 1 round, and doing nothing in plenty of anthers doesn`t give you the victory.
Have to disagree with you here. If Whyte didn’t want to risk his mandatory - don’t fight Povetkin. Can’t have his cake and eat it
Why would Povetkin retire? He is WBC number 1, WBC interim champion and the WBC Diamond belt holder and I expect he will be installed as mandatory very soon. He has a lot of money to make in boxing and it's not even a gimme that Whyte takes the rematch. He will need to let his head clear for a few days.
The whole business has more plot holes.twists and convoluted narratives than an Roland emmerich movie..no wonder nobody can get their heads around it.
Let's not forget the whole premise for this fight (and to make the PPV charge legit), was that Whyte was putting his mandatory spot at risk. Hearn was all about that he doesn't need to take this fight but he is, because he wants too and it's a huge risk bla bla. At the end of the day it was just a way to thumb another PPV in as we all know now that unless Whyte loses twice, his mandatory position was never at risk! What's more is that Eddie will probably want to push the rematch as another PPV, although I'm not sure if he will be able too but you can guarantee that's what he'll be wanting to do.
I’d ban immediate rematch clauses in non title fights end of. Povetkin deserves a shot at the WBC Title now he’s beaten Whyte. The sport needs to be regulated in the same way as UFC as stated in this thread as last night’s bout was largely a pointless exercise whatever the outcome. Sky/Matchroom now I suspect are looking at Usyk/Chisora in October, Joshua/Pulev in November and Whyte/Povetkin 2 in December (if fans are allowed to attend).
The rematch clause was for the title. If Povetkin vacates his WBC Diamond Belt, I don't think that would push him down from his number 1 position in the rankings. The belt is meaningless, the spot is what matters. Povetkin should sit tight.
If no rematch clause had been put in place the very same people moaning about there being one would be saying it was stupid not to have had one, the fight was always a huge risk, Pov however was gifted that shot by Whyte, who had no obligation to fight him l, could have just sat right and waited on Fury Wilder 3 to unfold. Also, Pov will probably wanna honour the rematch, nice pay day and he obviously likes fighting on Matchroom cards! Not saying Whyte deserves a rematch or that he will win just think it was a smart move on the promoters part and a fight I'd be happy to see again. Stick it on Joshua v Pulev card, dunno what all the crying is about on here! Lol
These endless rematch clauses do remind me of the Klitschko brothers- at least both brothers held world titles and had massive TV deals to fulfil when they activated them.
Doubt Povetkin minds a rematch tbh, no reasonnhe cant beat Whyte again. Of course he could lose as well but either way itll be on PPV and prob in front if a crowd next time. The shock KO will help sell it so bigger payday for him which he'll be happy for in his fourties at the back end of his career. I dunno if WBC will put their mandatory off for a while now Whyte has lost but hopefully so as the less roadblocks to Fury v Joshua the better.
Hearn, Matchroom are utterly corrupt, that should be clear by now. This was an absurd example of the unfair advantages they exploit in the sport.
