Taylor is no doubt more naturally talented but that doesnt change what I said. She has probably had more investment and resources put into her in her whole career than Persoon has for one fight. Persoon is also no spring chicken at 35. Boxing is almost never an even playing field

If you were going to compare Persoon's skill set with her male counterparts it wouldn't even be anyhwere near the low end journeymen from Eastern Europe that Eddie Hearn brings over for his prospects to feed on. It would be absolute jokers like that Andrew Hartley mong who beat Charlie Zelenoff. In others, someone who can't really box.

And Katie Taylor has now really struggled with her and arguably lost twice. The sooner we get this rubbish off out TV screens the better.

I had it for Taylor by a single point but my initial reaction when I heard how wide the first card was, was that Persoon had got it. I figured they had scored it on work rate and aggression whereas I was looking at the quality work.

Think it sometimes becomes a...i prefer skills to workrate thing when the favourite fighter gets outworked. Its fine to prefer skills to workrate but when the opponent outworks her as much as persoon did to katie...its pretty much moot. We cant be awarding katie points just because her footwork was good. Or just because shes the more skilled fighter. Persoon excerted her style on katie and tbh...pretty much outstrengthed and outworked her. Persoon should have got the nod imo. 98-93 scorecard a scandal. Tbh any card with katie being the winner was a scandal. Good competetive fight tho tbh. Bad style for katie tho persoon just looked to strong for her.

I have to agree with the above. Taylor lost both fights. They're painting her as some sort of female Mayweather, picking apart a crude slugger. The reality is she got steam rolled and was hanging in there. If Persoon had a punch she would have two stoppages. It's all well and good saying Taylor had the cleaner work but it wasn't consistent and prolific enough. And that matters when someone is sticking it on you from literally the opening bell to the last. Of course you're going to have your moments when you're up against someone as open as Persoon but a real quality operator would've dismantled her, not land half a dozen quality shots per round which are then hyped to high heavens.

I dunno a bar that she makes me think of sort of like a female margarito or maidana even not a classicly good boxer in any sense not the best footwork, one dimensional etc but good chin, engine and relentless

Persoon has won both fights for me.

    98-93 was a disgrace.

    Margarito!

I thought the exact same. Relentless. Shame she hasn't got the results that she deserved in my eyes.

We've heard an awfully silly set of opinions on this fight. Any chance some of the more knowledgeable posters like Jurgen or Twentyman could give us their versions??

I think Teddy Atlas nailed it really, when he said it was like trying to fly a kite in a monsoon. As @Turpins chin said earlier, I prefer skills over work rate. Taylor did the better work, used her skills to create openings and land the sweeter shots. Persoon made it very close with her sheer punch output which couldn’t be ignored but she showed zero boxing skill. She was stood upright, wading in, chin in the air, throwing shots with both hands square on. You have to take that into consideration when you score the fight. The fact Taylor slowed down, started planting her feet and started getting overwhelmed allowed Persoon back into it. I edged it to Taylor but credit to both for making it an entertaining fight.

Thanks Twentyman. Can't say the Katie I watched was ever getting overwhelmed and I did think she more than "edged it". I felt she won a lot more clearly than the first fight, (when maybe she could have been said to have edged it). I know it's not always a good indicator, but in this case the state of their faces at the end really told the story of this fight. Some of Katie's defensive work, slipping off to the side as Delfine swung wildly was a joy to behold. A boxing clinic.
Persoon really is a freak of nature though, unnatural fitness and toughness!

Do we need them? It's as plain as the bruises on Persoons face who won!
