Joshua Fury Povetkin Ruiz Wilder/Whyte I don't like dropping guys way down the rankings for a single loss to another top fighter, hence why I still have Whyte/Wilder hovering around the top five. Whyte I think will bounce back stronger than Wilder, but right now they're around the same spot. Just depends who you like. I can see a case being made for Hunter but personally I think he still needs to do a bit more to be considered. No problems with anyone that puts him in though. Hopefully Usyk will start to do his thing soon, after which things get rearranged yet again.
Hugged him to death you mean? That fight was crooked, Povetkin was not allowed to do any work on the inside, Wlad pushed him at every single opportunity and when Povetkin tried engagin Wlad just leaned on him.
No he wouldn’t have he was a fraud at heavyweight. Any world level decent fighter at heavyweight beats him you daft ****
So Wilder gets humiliatingly exposed in his last 2 fights including being outboxed/outclassed in one then rag dolled, bullied and TKOd in the other yet stays 3rd. While Whyte gets caught by one shot in a fight he was dominating, Povetkin down twice, and he drops completely out of sight? It’s not as if Wilder has a solid resumé to hold him up, Whyte’s is better.
Why, is it because he beat a semi retired blown up cruiser in Tony Bellew? What’s Usyk done at Heavyweight to suggest he could beat anyone in the top 10? Let me help you out, the answer is nothing! Let’s see how he goes before gifting him Heavyweight victories against World Champions at the weight!
As I've said in another thread, I don't see how getting battered by a 31 year old ATG level talent who had over 40 lbs on you is any worse than getting put to sleep by a 41 year old contender from the previous era who's 30 lbs lighter than you. In fact, I'd wager it's a lot less embarrassing. Don't get it twisted, Wilder's post fight excuses made that embarrassing, not what happened inside the ring. And Whyte's resume is overrated and grossly overstated. He was coming off of a competitive win over a shot to **** Wach, Wilder was coming off of a KOTY contender over a top10 HW, though in a fight he was getting outboxed. Before that, Wilder scored the actual KOTY over a top20 HW in Breazeale whereas Whyte went life and death with a top15 HW in Rivas where popped for PEDs and got a pass just like that, because the amount was low. With the inclusion of the draw against Fury(regardless of how you feel about the decision, officialy it was a draw. The same way Whyte is officially 2-0 over Chisora and has a win over Parker, a fight that would've been a draw without the headbutt KD.) I feel very comfortable in ranking Wilder ahead of Whyte. And don't be dramatic, noone is dropping Whyte out of the picture in the division, he's just dropping out of top5.
I've set saying the resumes of the top heavies are built upon OLD men PAST their primes. Yeah, Povetkin is still in the top ten even though his speed and reflexes aren't what they used to be.
You don’t think getting battered from pillar to post, bullied, man handled and rag dolled then eventually knocked out is embarrassing for a World Title holder? I’ll also turning that first fight opinion around, despite the gifted draw we all saw Wilder get outclassed, 2 knockdowns don’t outscore being beaten 9 or 10 rounds out of 12. You’re also ignoring the fact that Whyte was well ahead and in control of the fight prior to getting sloppy and being caught by Povetkin. Also Povetkin still offers a threat even at 40. My last counter is that Fury has 2 names on his own record, Wlad which was a superb result and Wilder who was an overprotected one trick pony that got exposed the moment he stepped in with a half decent boxer. Wilders resume speaks for itself but Fury’s hardly makes him an ATG either
Not that embarrassing when It happened at the hands of a much bigger and much more talented boxer who's in his physical prime(relatively) and also happens to be the man to end an ATG title reign, no. I knew you'd bring that up, that's why I mentioned Whyte's fights against Chisora and Parker. I thought Fury beat Wilder in their first fight as well, but I also thought Chisora beat Whyte in their first fight. In the end, It doesn't matter what I think or what you think. Officially, Whyte is 2-0 over Chisora, he has a win over Parker and Wilder has a draw with Fury. He had a 10-7 round in the 4th, but the first 3 rounds were up for grabs and It's not like Whyte got caught with a big lucky punch out of thin air. Povetkin was setting that jab-uppercut/left hook combo from the get go. He knew Whyte would be watching the left hook so he started looking for the overhand right. And right when was focused on the right hand, he got on the inside with a lazy jab and find the perfect spot for the shot. And Sasha did look his age. His balance wasn't what It used to be, he didn't have the same explosiveness in his left hook he did before and his hands were slower than ever. Besides, as the poster above mentioned, Ortiz outboxed Wilder in most of the rounds in both fights, yet noone is ranking him above Wilder. There's no reason whatsoever to rank Whyte ahead of Povetkin either. And I never said Fury is an ATG. I said he's an ATG level talent. Meaning, he's not an ATG yet but has the potential to become one.
Haye had the potential to upset or get destroyed by any decent heavyweight. When you're a super fast fighter with genuine KO power in both hands and the ability to throw from weird angles then you're obviously always in with a chance. I'd have picked him to lay Whyte out with that porous defence of his. If he landed on Dillian like he did Chisora then he's taking another nap in the ring. As for Joshua, he's vulnerable to counters and would struggle to deal with Haye in the build up. The brash confidence of Haye would make for a stark contrast with Joshua who would no doubt feel disrespected and a bit embarrassed by a lot of what was coming his way in the media and it's not hard to imagine him becoming a little more timid in that situation.
Well we’ll have to agree to differ on this one. Except to say White V Chisora was close on both counts until Whyte decisively KOd Chisora, it wasn’t like Chisora had put Whyte down twice and was ahead. Equally Whyte V Parker was a close fight and could have gone either way. Fury v Wilder 1 was a travesty of judging, a robbery you only have to review the opinions of fighters who commented on it.
You mean like George Foreman? @GeorgeForeman "Wilder brought the fight all night. Fury did a great job “ShowTime”; but he didn’t Win tonight. Stop indoctrinating."
