Some idiot in classic would still say Dempsey and Marciano would spark him out.

Michael Montero reckons Povetkin is set to win KO of the Year and Comeback of the Year and as of now it's looking very likely. When you factor in his age, the stage of his career he's at, Whyte's lofty ranking, it being in Whyte's backyard, and him having to haul himself off the canvas x 2 in the previous round it's going to take some beating.

I've got a good thread for the classic cooking up that will almost certainly cause a **** storm. Stay tuned.

Tiny 210lbs cruiserweight Marco Huck nearly knocked him out. Think what a fully fledged 185lbs heavyweight would do to him!!!

Christ, I actually shudder to have to read something like that.

I do not think we can say Povetkin got destroyed by a fighter who was allowed to continually be "Dr. Clinchko".
That level of grabbing shouuld be called *cheating*.
We cannot even know if Wlad-or Ali during the second bout with Frazier-would have won if they were not constantly allowed to smother attacks & reset. Even though they were both more likely to win, it is far from certain.
Which fighters would even have a decent chance if a huge HW was allowed to constantly spoil?

    Do others agree?

I think it's already becoming clear that this era is way weaker then Lewis's era and Klitschko era. A lot of the old guys from Wlad's era are still at the top now.
Povetkin just stopped #2 ring HW, who beat Parker.
    Helenius KOed top 10 Kownatski.
Ortiz is as old as earth and is still ranked in top 10.
Pulev is 40 years old and still in the ring top 10.

    It would prove the point.

Whatever Povetkin does, I think people will always rate him below Wladimir.

Anyone who can keep it long against Povetkin beats him.

    Whyte's footwork isn't good enough.

Hughie's workrate is historically bad which is why he failed

I think Wilder, AJ and Fury probably all stop Povetkin.

I think Whyte 7 times out 10 should beat Povetkin

    Even though he won't, let's speculate;

Unless you're buying into the dillian Whyte hype wins against him at this point mean very little in an ATG sense. If he's able to knockout Joshua and Fury at this age while looking helpless against wlad in his prime that says more about Joshua and Fury than povetkin.

It would propel him into top 10 all time, but it is unlikely to occur of course given his age

He would be rated very highly and rightly so. It is a shame that during his prime, the Klitschko brothers were active. Without the Klitschko brothers, Povetkin could have been undisputed champion. A prime Povetkin would most likely have won a proper title if he was up against today's crop of heavyweights.

He would definitely be considered an ATG, but the possibility of it happening is about equal to possibility of Naoya Inoue beating Andy Ruiz Jr. in eating contest
