Ya I've heard that crap for yrs.. I went into the fight watching it, expecting to see an old Evander maybe get a decent fight, but get pounded by a younger, stronger, prime Lewis. It never happened. Holyfield hurt Lewis time and time again, and was the effective aggressor throughout most of the bout. In the second fight Holyfield didn't try as hard and Lewis did, but still only enough to get a REAL draw.

I think if you switch scorecards for the 1st and 2nd fights, they would look much more appropriate. I had Lewis beating Holyfield clearly 117-111 in the first fight, but the second one was very close. Lewis himself said many times the second fight was much harder for him

Majority of press row had Mosley beating Delahoya in their rematch

Holyfield out-jabbed him (virtual insanity to think otherwise) and out-punched him (likewise) . He mostly negated Lewis' offense. He should have got the close but clear decision.

I would give Lewis maybe 4 rounds. 1 even.

Holyfield adapted well, not too dissimilar to the way he adapted in the second fight against Bowe. He took a more measured approach and was effective working his way to the inside and gave a much better account of himself. I think a draw is a fair result in the second fight although I had Lennox up slightly.

No I was incensed at the time of DLH-Mosley 2. But haven't watched it for a long long time

Who is this " a lot of the press " that scored it for Holyfield?

Lewis clearly won this fight. 7-5, 7-4-1, 8-4, or 8-3-1 are all good scores. There is no way Holyfield won 7 rounds here. Lewis was more accurate, landed more and was in control for most of the fight. Holfyield fought in spurts, had no answer for Lewis jab ( Holy was out jabbed by quite a few opponents ) and knew he lost when the final bell rang.

Total Punches Lewis Holyfield

Landed 195 Lewis 137 Holyfield
Thrown 490 Lewis 416 Holyfield
Percent 40% Lewis 33% Holyfield

Lewis threw and landed more jabs and power punches at had better accuracy. What else can you say?
• Judge: Jerry Roth 115-113
• Judge: Chuck Giampa 116-112
• Judge: Bill Graham 117-111
• Unofficial AP scorecard: 116-113 Lewis

Holyfield fighting in spurts was an enormous issue. I can't see anyone who is good at scoring fights giving this to Holyfield.

To me anybody who thinks that this was not a close fight is biased from the first fight.

Very popular PPV USA heavyweights often get gifts. Holyfield has two. Lewis 1, which he clearly lost ( They called it a draw ) and Ruiz 1, which the "judges " gave to Holyfield " but he should have lost.

You saw it with Ali, and to an extend Joe Louis.

A modern example would be Wilder draw with Fury.

If your a non-American born heavy, fighting a popular USA heavyweight, you'd better win beyond the margin of error.
